Rich Hackley:
Drums and percussionHey there, I'm Hack, the newest member of Logan 3 (no, my parents didn't have an odd sense of humor, Hack is an abbreviation of my last name). I came on board after the release of the CD so you won't find me there, but perhaps in the future recordings you'll see me.
I'm the oldest in years, and my musical interests can prove it. While the other kids in the neighborhood were singing "Yummy Yummy Yummy, I Got Love In My Tummy", I had the words down cold to Yes' "Fragile" and The Who's "Tommy". With 3 older brothers around, there was just no lollypop rock in my house. But the band that inspired me to take up an instrument was KISS. Seeing them in concert just one time was all I needed to know that I wanted to be on stage, too. Deciding which instrument to play was a no-brainer… drums!
By the next year I was in my first band playing the popular bands of the time: Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Styx, and of course KISS and The Who. The Who had taken my interest so much, that to this day the best compliment I have ever received was when another group told me I sounded just like Keith Moon (since it was a Who song we were playing, I figured I must have done it right). After a several year hiatus from playing, I was re-inspired by a lot of the artists that emerged in the 90's. Instead of being a pathetic old man whose CD collection is a duplication of his album ("album" - what's that?!) collection, I began buying the new stuff by bands like Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, and Collective Soul. I think that Matchbox 20 is the hottest band touring right now. These past couple of years have made me stop thinking that I was born 10 years too late for the music I love. I now think it's great that I'm still young enough to rock to these newer groups.
My formal training began at a local music store in Branford, CT, at Harmony Music Center. I was fortunate enough to audition and get into a regional part-time school in New Haven called Educational Center for the Arts. That School taught me all about music in general, not just the drums. It was there that I began training at the Neighborhood Music School, also in New Haven. By then it was clear that my talent and happiness lay in playing music, so I went on to college at Western CT State University in the Music Education program.
After hooking up with Leigh and Kent, I'm as excited as ever to be playing again and I'm hoping our work pays off with plenty of original material, more recordings, a couple of videos, and a nice fat contract. But until then, it's still the best time a person can have.
