JONAS CHRISTOPHER FOX B: 5 Oct 1817 Sevier County, Tennessee M: 13 Jan 1843 Eliza Bird (12 Jan 1822-8 Jul 1896) D: 2 Jul 1866 Fox Cemetery Christopher was the second son of Adam Fox III and Mary Shrader. He married Eliza Bird, daughter of Lewis. Christopher volunteered for service with the Union army and was enrolled as a sergeant in F company of the 9th Tennessee Cavalry at Panther Springs on 13 Sep 1863. He was just short of 46 years old. An other members of F Company were Christopher’s son, Simon. Christopher’s nephews, Caswell and Gilbert, were in K Company. Christopher returned from the war, suffering from consumption and chronic bronchitis and died 2 Jul 1866 at the age of 48. Eliza remained a widow and lived in Sevier and Jefferson Counties. Both are buried in Fox Cemetery. + a. Simon Fox Jan 1844 b. Mary Jane Fox 1846. She married Henry Harrison Wells on 2 Jan 1868 in Jefferson County. He was the son of Levi and Anna Wells. They moved to San Saba County, Texas, where Simon also lived. + c. Caswell Fox Dec 1847. d. Matilda Fox or Margaret E. Fox 16 May 1852. She married Philip Ottinger 17 Jun 1873. See census records below. e. Barbara A. Fox 7 Sep 1857 f. Sarah A. Fox 7 Sep 1857 g. Louise H. Fox 15 Aug 1860 h. Perry M. Fox 2 Nov 1862.
