Catherine Fox was not one of the children of George Fox and Christina
Eversol Fox enumerated by NGT Fox in his 1824 history of the
descendants of Adam Fox of Sevier County. Information on her comes
from William A. Henry, 3981 Thomas Cross Road, Sevierville, TN 37862.
He says, “According to my aunt (Mae Feezel Chapman, now deceased)
her grandmother who was Sarah Jane Bird, daughter of Adam and
Catherine Bird, told her several times that Christina Eversol was her
Grandmother. Knowing that her Grandfather, Asa Layman, was also a
grandson of George and Christina Fox, I thought perhaps she could have
been confused as to who had actually related this to her, but she was
positive it was Sarah Jane Feezel.”
A child of Catherine’s age was in the 1830 Census household of George
Fox. Catherine was married by the 1840 census.
The date of Catherine’s birth comes from Alvin and Jean Bird, P.O. Box
655, Placerville, CA. Alvin is a descendant of Margaret Fox and Henry
Bird.
