Whitey, the only cockney in the band, was called in to replace Tony McCarroll. In fact, when he got the crucial phonecall from Noel, Whitey admits he was so stunned he was 'waiting for Jeremy Beadle to walk in.'His mum took the call and said "It's Noel Gally... Gally-something...", explaining that 'He sounded Northern, like someone out of Coronation Street.' Alan picked himself up off the floor and agreed to meet Noel in a cafe. The two immeadiately hit off, to such an extend that he wasn't even asked to audition.
