He turned seven years
old on
April 26, 2003. He was born at Owatona Hospital with a severe heart defect.The left side of his heart didn't develop fully. They call it Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.While in the delivery room,doctors noticed that Matthew's heart rate decelerated twice.prompting them to do a cesarean.Matthew was born a healthy baby,weighing 6 pounds, 14 ounces, and 20 inches long. Within hours he was put on oxygen. All kinds of test where taken.The only thing doctors could find was that his ductus,which prevents back flow in the heart was still open, normally it would close at birth.But by it staying open it saved Matthew's life. Echocardiogram was taken to find out what was wrong. With in minutes the doctors found out that Matthew left side of his heart was not fully developed.Matthew was sent to St Mary's Hospital in Rochester,Mn. My daughter had to stay back in Owatona Hospital,because of her surgery, and my son inlaw and I went to St Mary's to be with Matthew.While we where there we found out that he had the worst kind of heart defect.John and I was told that one out of three babies with this servives.John and Mary said they owe it to give him a chance to live.They went for the three surgeries. First:April,31,1996-- Second:Nov:14,1996-- Third:June,18,1998 Matthew is doing fine, he does every thing a boy his age can. Also Matthew and his family would like to thank everybody out there for the prayers they have said.And to thank Dr Puga,all the staff at St Mary's. Trains,Trucks,Cars,Winnie the Pooh and friends,Elmo, Big Bird,Ernie,that is to name a few. Loves to ride onhis motorcycle, tractor and train. His favorite color is blue.And he likes The Price Is Right and Bob Barker. He likes to say (Come On Down!). When Matthew had his first surgery I bought him a guardian angel,he now has a collection of them.
