I never really gave much thought about angels, miracles and
such. I always associated it with superstitions from the good
old days. Stories I remember my mother and grandmother telling
me as a youngster. They were just stories told to amuse the
children. I never gave any of them too much credibility. Well it's never too late to learn.
The day I learned about both angels and miracles will one
day be told to my own children and grandchildren. I hope they will listen good and take stock of what is being told to them.
My memory takes me back almost two years ago. We were living in Nevada. My husband was working at one of the local casinos in nearby Las Vegas. The temperatures can get real mean as far as the heat goes. Summer calls for air-conditioning at all times.
Having trouble with our old car, we decided to take what little savings we had and splurge on a decent car. There was no way we could afford a brand new one, so we began to look for a car that was only two or three years old. After a few weeks of searching, we finally found one that was within our price range. Though it was two years old, it was like a showroom car to us. It had the child proof doors, which was a primary concern to us and an air-conditioning unit that was in excellent working condition. I couldn't wait to be driving this beauty.
Thursday is my usual marketing day. This was going to be a special Thursday, because I would be driving my new car. After strapping four month Billy into his car seat, I decided to put Katie in the front seat next to me. Katie was just going to be three years old next month. Sitting in the front next to me always made her feel grown up. Since she was being especially good all morning, I wanted to give her this special treat.
Driving down the highway with the cool air blowing on us, and the tape player sending out a mellow piano concerto, made me feel like a queen. Today was going to be special. I could feel the vibes around me and they were all good.
Billy was sound asleep in the back seat and Katie was chattering like a little magpie. The heat rising from the road in waves, was a sign that the heat was building up to be a record high. We were down to the last of our shopping. As I pulled into the supermarket parking lot, I could see by the lack of cars that most people were taking advantage of the cool comfort of their homes. A quick sweep through the market and we would be home doing the same.
I parked the car and went around to remove Katie from her seat. I put my purse on the floor in front of her as I un-buckled her. I stood her by the door and turned to open the back door to get the baby. Just as I turned Katie had slammed the front door shut. To my horror, I had seen that all the door latches were locked. MY PURSE AND BILLY WERE STILL INSIDE. I looked around in desperation for someone to help. There was not a soul in the parking lot, only a few empty cars. I grabbed Katie by the hand and ran into the market for help. I knew the car would be like a furnace within a very short time, and Billy was still asleep in the car seat. The only clerk in the market was at the checkout. The manager came running when he heard the loud commotion. I was getting more upset by the minute and my visible stress started Katie crying. We all ran back to the car, I could see that Billy's little head was wet with perspiration from the rapid temperature climb in the car. He was awake and screaming. The more he screamed the hotter he was going to get. "My Dear God", this wasn't the way this day was suppose to end. The manager assured me that help was only a minute away.
Just as things couldn't seem any bleaker, a sporty new car drove up and parked just two parking spots away from us. A tall strikingly beautiful woman walked over to us. "My Lord" she said "What are the chances that I would see my old car only a few days after trading it in?" When she saw the distraught look on our faces, and assessed what was going on, she gave us a glowing smile, opened her purse and handed me a key. "I forgot to turn this extra key in when I traded in the car." Now you can believe in ANGELS or not, but this stunning figure smiled, turned and got in her car and drove off. She never even went into any of the stores. It was as if she came to that parking lot knowing there was a tiny new life at stake.
