All over the isle of Kos, Greece, you see cows being attached in the fields with a 5 m long rope. They stand in the hot sun, there is hardly any shade. There is only little grass, and they are fed mainly with straw which has a very low nutritive value!

There is no fresh water either; the little quantity of water they get is getting very hot in the sun (temperatures between 35°-40°C in the summer) and obviously contains a lot of bacteria .

Many times, the rope, with which they are attached on the ground, is too short and they cannot even reach the water recipients.

According to my observations, the cows are released from their attachments once a day: that is when they get fresh cool water which they are allowed to drink for about 5 minutes. After that they are attached with their ropes again.
