Our farm is about 160 acres but we only farm about 120 of these, the rest is taken up with paddocks, dams and sheds.  We bought the farm in July 1978 and moved onto it on New Years Eve of that year.  When we bought it, it was mostly sugar cane, but over the years sugar became less and less viable so the cane dissappeared and vegetables took its place. We have grown many differtent kinds of vegetables over the years but now we concentrate mainly on Capsicums, Eggfruit, Zucchini and Button Squash.

This is where the growing process begins. We put seeds into seedling trays and keep them in a shade house until they are big enough to be planted in the field.
Once the seedlings are big enough they are taken out into the field and planted with this planter into rows of plastic mulch which we use instead of planting straight into the soil. The plastic conserves water and lessens the weed problem. The plants are watered by a black plastic tube which runs under the plastic mulch.
Water for irrigating the crops comes from one of our two on farm storage dams or from the local Irrigation Water Supply channels.
When the crops are fully grown we go into the paddock and begin harvesting them. These are yellow capsicums being harvested.
Once it is picked the fruit is tipped into large plastic bins and put on a truck to be taken into the CPH Fresh pack house where it will be packed for market.
