My Statement of Faith

I believe:
- I believe that the Bible,
consisting of both the Old and New Testament, is the inspired, inerrent
word of God; written by men, under the direction and guidance of the Holy
Spirit, with the exception of the book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ,
which was written under the direct guidance of Christ Himself. I believe
the Bible is the final authority on all doctrinal, spiritual, and Biblical
matters, and that nothing supercedes its authority.
- I believe in the Trinity;
that there is one God who exists as three Personifications: God the Father,
God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Each one is fully
God, yet each is a distinct Personification and Aspect of God.
- It therefore follows that I believe in the deity
of Christ; that when He came to earth, He was God in the flesh.
- I believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ through the working
of the Holy Spirit upon Mary; His sinless life; His crucifixion on the
cross; His bodily, physical resurrection from the grave;
His ascension into Heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of the Father;
and His future physical return to earth to reign and rule for one thousand
years, before issuing in an eternal age of peace after the final defeat
of Satan.
- I believe in salvation
by faith alone. No works can save us. Nothing we ever do will gain
us salvation. Salvation is obtained by believing in Jesus Christ; believing
that He died on the cross for us as a final, perfect sacrifice for all
humanity, believing that He rose again from the grave, thus displaying
that the power of sin and death had been broken, repenting of our sins,
asking forgiveness of Jesus Christ for our sins, and accepting Jesus Christ
as Lord and Saviour of our lives. "Neither is there salvation
in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men,
whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12
- I believe that baptism is commanded of believers. However, I also
believe that baptism is a work, and therefore has no saving merit of its
own (paper coming soon), but is instead the initial sign of our
obediance to Christ and His commands and, if at all possible, should be
the first thing that a new believer does after accepting Christ as Lord.
In baptism, a believer is symbolically re-enacting the death, burial, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ, burying their old, sinful nature, and being
resurrected into the body of Christ, and signifying his/her acceptance
of the validity of Christ's sacrifice, and the necessity of that sacrifice
as an atonement once and for all for our sins.
- I believe in the taking of Communion, by which we also recognize
Christ's sacrifice, and assert that by His body which was given for us
we are made whole, and through His spilt blood of the New Covenant we are
washed clean of all of our sins.
- I believe that the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit listed in
1Corinthians 12:7-11 are still valid and in use today. However, the display
and use of certain of these gifts (tongues and prophecy) should be done
in an orderly manner, and according to the guidelines set forth in 1Corinthians
14:26-33.
