The unvarnished truth is what he expected. It's rarely what he got. Life had seemed unfulfilling before he knew what he was. It's to be expected that royality would not know how to live among commoners. While living as one of them he often felt disjointed. But now that he knew ... it was time to rediscover how to be his true princely self.
His older sister had brought it up in passing one day as they talked on the phone. She had laughed so casually as she spoke the words that came to change his life so fundamentally. It was the very beginning of the undoing of his happiness. Even as she spoke it jokingly, he heard in her voice a clariy that instantly commanded his full attention. It was one of those moments when eevry detail becomes so crispand every sensation more vivid that with each breath you can feel yourself becoming more alive.
She said that recently, while she was intoxicated and in a relaxed state, the notion struck her that she really did feel that she was worth more than her life appeared to show. A whole chain of ideas tumbled into her heart so fast that it all made perfect sense -- if she valued it from the perspective that she was in fact immpoverished royalty. Exhiled to this rocky land. Exhiled to a place where no one knew her true self. His mind raced. It really did sound right. That really would explain why he inherently expected such graet things from the world. And why the world never did seem to deliver. While he chuckled on the phone with his sister about how wonderful it would be if there actually was an underlying way to describe his disappointment with things, as well as explain the disjointedness. But really what he felt was a freedom gently blowing across his face like a warm breeze off the ocean. He had glimpsed a new way to live
He began his new life by researching the ways in which someone of his immense stature should behave. He dressed with much more thought and care. His posture lightened because the weight of his disjointed feelings grew to support him rather than bear down on him. He was great. He knew his thoughts mattered. He felt his worth exceed the potential of his present surroundings. It made him smile with all the lightness his new found freedom. And he did smile. He smiled alot. And the greatness that each of his smiles carried made many of the people he encountered throughout the rest of his days delight in his presence as if it were a gift. And it was.
the end
In our minds.
