"As the sun rises..."
Prologue-Three months ago

A new day has dawned in the town of Torinco. The sun is shining brightly in the air, filling the world with happiness and delight. All the villagers were bustling in the terraced fields, cultivating the first good crop they'd had in months. Everywhere you looked, there was peace and contentment in the air.

Jennifer was walking along the path, when she heard someone calling her name from the wheat fields outside of town. Thinking it was her boyfriend, she called out, "Jonny, is that you?" But there was no response, only the steady calling of her name in that monotone voice. "Jennifer. Jennifer." It called to her in a comforting way, yet she was still frightened by it. "Jennifer.

Jennifer." It kept drawing her nearer and nearer, and she suddenly realized that she had long ago lost the power to resist this mystery voice's siren-like embrace. She tried in vain to turn around; mabye escape somehow and get help. But it was all for naught. As she entered that field, something in her head told her she would never come out alive...

Suddenly, the air was filled with a piercing scream. By the time everyone had arrived at the source of the scream, Jennifer had been raped and strangled in between the rows of wheat. As the sky darkened, the murderer's evil laugh echoed thro the hils and chilled them to the bone. As they scanned the body, they found that she still clutched a note that stated simply, "One.".

Present...

The dark and clammy dankness of the cave was almost as unerrving as the putrid smell of decay that filled the nostrils of our two heroes. As they creeped closer toward their goal, Ryin gently stopped Kyra, put her fingers to her lips gently and pointed ahead. There, in the center of the cave was the Mutant Grasshound that had been terrorizing the area.

As they crept up on it from either side, they could see that it was finishing a meal. Nodding to Kyra, Ryin stepped into the light. "Well," she started sarcastically. "I hope you enjoyed killing that poor creature, because that's the last meal you'll ever eat in this lifetime." Ryin threw both of her slashers at the beast, but missed. "Stupid, stupid, stupid." she thought as she dodged the Grasshound's attacks. "Anytime now, Kyra." She yelled angrily. "Well," Kyra started innocently enough. "Just get out of the way, and I'll finish him with a FLAELI!!!" She screamed as she hurled the magic blast at the creature's head, obliterating it completly.

Kyra smiled smirkly as Ryin walked over and retrieved her slashers. "So," Kyra began as Ryin began preparing to Telepipe both them and the defeated monster back to Adieo to collect their reward. "How much do we get for this job?" "Oh," Ryin began as she finally clasped onto the Telepipe and set it into motion. "I believe the reward was posted at 16,000 Mestas."

The cloud of mist envelops them and transports them instantly to the front of the Hunter's Guild. As they hand the fallen foe over to the Guildmen and prepare to go collect their reward, they spy Dorin coming out of his and Alys' house. He rushes over and greets them enthusiastically. "Ryin! Kyra!" he cheered as he hegged them both. "How goes the Hunter game?" "Not bad, we're both still alive." Kyra jokes as they quickly switch from their hunter mind set to their more feminine persona.

"Well," Ryin began in a casual tone. "How's mom doing?" "Well," Dorin began. "After we returned here to Adieo, something happened that really changed our lives." "What?" they both cried worriedly. "I think I'd better let Alys tell you." he said with a sly glint in his eye. "Honey, the girls are here. Can you bring out our new addition.

Alys suddenly appeared in the doorway carring a small todler in their arms. "Wha...?!?" they both started. "Oh, isn't he cute?" Alys soothed as she cuddled the small child. "His mother died giving birth to him, so we adopted him. I named him Johnathan, just because I like the name." "Nee!" Ryin exclaimed. "I've got another baby to spoil!" "Oh," Dorin began. "Did Rika and Chaz have their baby yet?" "No, thank god." Kyra joked. "As the only semi-permanent Esper on this planet, who do you think they'll call on to help give birth?" "Rune?" Alys asked, and they all fell into a fit of laughter.

After a good meal, the group relaxed in the family room. Alys had just put Johnathan to bed, and Dorin was calmly smoking on his pipe as he listened to the recounting of Ryin and Kyra's last battle. Kyra was just explaining about how she had delivered the fatal blow, when there came a knock on the door.

They opened it to find a very frustrated messenger from the Guild. "Hunters Kyra and Ryin?" he asked as he entered the room. "Yes?" Ryin answered. "Just what seems to be the broblem?" "I really can't say," he hurridly spoke. "I can only tell you that you're to report to the Guild's front desk for a Priority One mission."

"Can't, or won't." Kyra sneered at him. "Both, actually." the page answered rather curtly, then ducked out the door to parts unknown. After he left, Ryin looked over at Dorin. "O.K. Spill it." "Wha..What do you mean?" he asked in a defensive tone. "What she means," Kyra began, "is that you know what's going on. You have to living right next to the damn Guild!"

Dorin sighed. He knew when he was licked. "All right, if you must know you've been 'nominated' to catch a murderer." "Why us?" Ryin queried. "Yeah," Kyra interjected. "And what is this all about anyway?" "I don't know that." Dorin began. "I only know that in the last few months, something evil has enveloped the land. And if you two don't end it soon, Motivia may never recover from the blow."
