     The other day my girlfriend and I went to see "The Blair With Project," and as we where walking to the theater to see it we saw a huge poster door for Poke'mon the movie. I was stunned that they where actually going to be showing the original Pocket Monster movie here in the states. The original movie was released in Japan in the summer of 1998 and soon became the fourth highest grossing film that summer. Now we get to see that movie in it's full with just a few changes manly in the music score, with the same voice actors as in the TV series they show here in the states. The name of the movie being released in the states is going to be named "Poke'mon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back", which will introduce the 151st Poke'mon which the information I found claims has never been seen in the Tv show or games.
     That however is in error Mewtwo is shown in the opening sequence of the TV series and is on the card game as well. As for the game, there right that no one has this poke'mon except for those that where lucky enough to get him at a Nintendo Power convention. Any way the movie is going to released in November so where just a few months away to seeing the movie, but here are some tidbits taken from www.pokemonthemovie.com, yep that's right as soon as I got home that night I looked up the information for all of our readers.

Tid Bit 1: June 24, 1999 - Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to distribute "Pokémon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back," the first animated Pokémon feature film, to a worldwide audience, excluding Asia. The big screen version of the immensely popular franchise will be a Kids' WB! Presentation, and will open in theaters throughout North America on November 12, with distribution in the rest of the world to follow.

Tid Bit 2: "Pokémon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back" is an epic adventure featuring the debut of new, bioengineer "Super-Pokémon," whose powers rival those of the existing creatures, creating exciting new plot twists and turns. The new Pokémon appears in this film for the first time in any format; it cannot yet be seen on television or in any video game. For the upcoming release of the film, the producers are adding a new musical score.

Tid Bit 3: "'Pokémon the Movie' will bring these popular characters to an even wider group of viewers, who will learn for themselves what makes Pokémon red-hot," said Alfred Kahn, Chairman and CEO of 4 Kids Entertainment, the company authorized by Nintendo to hold the rights to the movie, television series, home video and merchandising. "We are thrilled to be in business with Warner Bros. and Nintendo in both the television and motion picture rollout of Pokémon."

Tid Bit 4: In the feature film, Ash Ketchum, accompanied by his friends Misty, Brock and Pikachu (a favorite, electrically charged Pokémon), continues his quest to become the world's greatest Pokémon trainer. The challenge is greater than ever when Mewtwo, a bio-engineered Pokémon, creates a strain of Super-Pokémon and sets the stage for the ultimate Pokémon battle.

Tid Bit 5: A 22-minute short subject, "Pikachu's Vacation," will precede the feature. In addition to Mewtwo, four brand-new Pokémon will appear in "Pikachu's Vacation."

     I personally can't wait to see this movie and see what a numb er of Japanese already know about this movie which must be good. This summer in Japan the sequel was released along with the Star War movie it was called "Pocket Monsters Revelation Lugia", so there's a good chance that if "Mewtwo strikes back does well, we'll get to see the sequel in the movies here.

     Here just a little news regarding the website, we have a couple new features on there. The first is a survey, which we will change each month, what we'll do is add a new question each month and post the answer in the news letter along with the new question. This months question is "Who should Marry Akane", make sure you make your vote so she'll marry the right guy. The other feature we have is the Mononoke Hime countdown page, which has a running clock counting down the months, weeks, days minutes, and seconds to the release of the movie in the states. The site also contains links and info on the movie so check it out and see how long you have to plan to see this movie.

Koi Chan and I would like to say that we're publishing this to keep you up to date on the newest anime out there, but we haven't seen it so we can't tell you about any Adult Content on these videos so please be careful if you find these and decide to watch them. It's great to be able to get conformation on some great tittles such as a new Tenchi movie, even if it's the last it'll be nice to see a new movie and lets face it all good things must come to an end. It's also great to see Bubble Gum Crisis 2040 revived again, I have always been a fan of the original series and look forward to seeing the new one.
     Though I am also concerned to know if it's the same old story just a new setting but that's part of the fun reviewing videos for you guys. We will be doing more research in the month to come on these animes so keep your eyes open for more on these newly released videos.

Sailor Moon R: Music Collection
(Note: The word "Collection" is misspelled because it is spelled that way on the CD)
By: Sailor Pikachu

     With the "Sailor Moon" movies finally being commercially released in America, I felt that a review for the soundtrack of the first of the three movies was in order. This 15 Track collection includes almost all the music found in the movie, most of it in the order that it plays in the movie. As usual, the music is beautiful and is the perfect accompaniment for the story that the movie tells. Listening to the soundtrack after watching the movie actually enables you to play the movie in your mind, since it is almost like watching the movie without the voices.
     Unfortunately, the lack of voices is part of what I dislike about the soundtrack. There are vocals in the song "Moon Revenge" and also in the bonus track entitled "I Am…" but there are not sound bites where it would seem appropriate. Such places would be the first track which is the music playing during Usagi's/Sailor Moon's opening speech, or during the "Senshi Make-up!" sequence. There are the music vocals, but none of the Senshi calling their powers. The only other problem I had is that there aren't English translations for the song titles, but since the CD is technically an import, I won't hold that against it.
     The only warning I have to attach to this album is make sure you know what to look for. The cover has the five Senshi, Chibi-Usa, and a profile shot of Tuxedo Kamen/Mask and Fiole. The warning here is that Fiole looks almost exactly like Ali/Alan from the Doom Tree Saga. It may seem like you have the wrong CD, but it will actually be the correct one. Other than that, enjoy this CD.

Grade: B+

     For this issue we have a special coloumn, from someone that was lucky enough to get and see Mononoke Hime at the San Diego Comic Con International. This is Lee impressions of the experience of the movie. Thanks Lee for letting us use your letter.

     The 1999 San Diego Comic Con International had a special treat for those fortunate enough to have gotten a Princess Mononoke flier from the Miramax/ Dimension Films booth (#2734), which was redeemed at the Gaslamp 15 Theater at 701 5th St., last Friday, August 13, 1999. It was difficult to get the flier at the con, because fans were told on different occasions that, it would be "1st come 1st served", that later became "there will probably be a drawing", then on the 13th at 10:30am, I was told they had handed out fliers, and would hand out more throughout the day. When asked when, I was told "sometime today". I stopped by again and was told the rest of the fliers would be handed out at 2:30pm. I arrived at 2:15, and the booth was already surrounded by a crowd 3 rows of fans deep, that later grew to 5, and caused security to tell everyone they were blocking the aisle. The last of the fliers were handed out to a scene of outstretched hands. I felt the flier touch my hand and felt lucky to have gotten it. The flier stated that: the showing was for 7:30pm, to get there early, that there was no guarantee of admission, it was good for two tickets, and that Neil Gaiman, who scripted the English dub, would be there to give a talk and answer questions. I rushed over to the theater at 5:30pm, to find a line had already formed. Many of the people I met were fans of Miyazaki-sama's work and there were people who knew nothing, but were interested in seeing this premier. One of the fans was costumed as "San". The doors opened up at 7pm to those who had redeemed their fliers for tickets, the rest waited anxiously for a chance to get in, while the people with tickets got seated. The viewing-room had stadium style seating so everyone that got a seat, got a good view. At 7:30pm, Mr. Gaiman came in to tell us about his participation in scripting the English version. He stated that it had been a very difficult task for him, because of the constant dialog of changes and adjustments to the script, between the studios and himself, which he found amusing, but took a lot of time to complete, and he said he wouldn't want to go through that again. He was very proud of his accomplishment, his relationship with Hayou Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli, Harvey Weinstein, and Miramax Films. Neil told us to enjoy the showing, he was unavoidably called to hand out awards at the Eisner Awards ceremony, had not seen the newly scripted version in its entirety (and wished to), but would be back later as soon as he could, for the viewing and the question and answer period afterwards. We all settled in for what turned out to be the best presentation of Miyazaki's work to date. The original soundtrack was left intact, the songs used the original music score (the lyrics according to Mr. Gaiman, after the viewing were probably the most negotiated over out of all the adjustments), the dialog adhered for the most part to a literal translation, with all Japanese surnames being enunciated correctly, the voice acting was very well done (with most of the emotions of the characters matching that of the Japanese voice actors'). My friends and I knew we were seeing the equivalent of the best anyone has ever done in paying homage to the Japanese and their animated visual storytelling! We were ecstatic over the production values and the sense that the right people who cared about the project were allowed to complete it. I'm telling everyone I know or meet, to see this great accomplishment! I hope this kind of effort from Miramax will spill over into the other Ghibli Studio works.

Sincerely, Lee Bourgeois

     I found the following news off the net, I mean where else are you going to find news like this right? Unless you have a subscription to Variety which not all of us do. Sailor Pikachu, also adds to this great find by a list of voice actors that are lending their talents to the new movie. The articles that we have unfortunately don't point to what the movie is about. I for one hope that it isn't based on any of the games that have been made, for the movie to be an original Final Fantasy story. If it's based on one of the games that sort of goes against the whole point of Final Fantasy in which every new Final Fantasy Game is unique in it's self and if the movie is based on a game that will take away some of the fun of the movie. You already would know how the movie is going to end. Hopefully we will in the months to come find and release what this Final Fantasy movie will be about.
     It will be interesting to see if the movie can have as many plot twists to it as any of the games do and be able to do so under two hours. Considering the average game player takes something like 30 to 80 hours to finish a game (of course there are many people that have finished the game a lot quicker but where talking about an average player. Below are the articles that have so far been uncovered about Final Fantasy the Movie granted these are short articles but hopefully longer and more in depth ones will soon follow.

~~~
``Final Fantasy-- The Movie.''
     The Columbia Pictures project, which will follow efforts to save the Earth from the ultimate enemy, attempts to simulate human emotions and movements more realistically than any previous computer-generated animated picture. Shooting is underway in Honolulu with voice recording taking place in Los Angeles under the helm of Jack Fletcher (``Black Mask,'' ``Princess Mononoke'').
``Fantasy'' is slated for a 2001 release
~~~

     I just did a little research at Entertainment Weekly Online and Ain't it Cool News www.aint-it-cool-news.com and got a list of voice talent for the upcoming Final Fantasy Movie. The list so far is Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, Donald Sutherland, Steve Buscemi, Peri Gilpin, and Ming-na Wen. The expected release date is the year 2001.

Macross VF-X 2

Players: 1
Will be Published in September
Analog Controller: Yes
Developed by: UNIT
Published by: Bandai
Genre: Action

     This review is a review of a demo, this game at the time of this writing has not been released yet but I was fortunate enough to find a demo of this game in the Official Playstation magazine. Usually I don't buy the magazine just for the demo but in this case I had to because it had something on it that I've been waiting for. A Macross game, and a good game at that, at least from what I was able to tell from just playing the demo.
     However my first impression was, "Not a good game" which was extremely disappointing considering how long I had been waiting for a game like this. What makes the game a little screwy at first is getting used to the swirling free flowing environment, but once you get used to that and the controls this game is a blast to play. Not to mention the best view to keep is missile view the other are just off, and very confusing. After I figured out how everything worked and I became used to the way the controls worked I started loving the game it was like being in a VF fighting for the fate of the world. You get a intense rush the first time you change modes from fighter jet, to gruadian mode, to Battloid mode. That is half the fun.
     Another part of the fun is just firing off the gun when in battloid mode it looks just as it does in the anime...the fire from the barrel and the spent shells flying from the gun it's self. Another part of the game that is unbelievable like the anime is when you fire missiles. When in jet mode it allows you to lock on with something like 15 missiles and when you release the trigger to fire them it is a patterned Macross missile swarm. You know the type, a lot of missiles, the smoke trail that finally ends in explosions rippling across the night sky, and your in control of it, but be careful if the enemy is far enough way it is possible to out fly the missile swarm.
     There are draw backs to each mode of fighting, when in jet mode the gun is virtually useless, but you do have full motion and maneuverability, a nice a way to get massive missile locks on the enemy. Guardian mode is all right you have better use of the gun but you can only fire four missiles at a time, and maneuverability is bad you can only move up and down and rotate left and right, so it's a good mode to use if you get disorientated and want to find where the bad guys are before you change back to jet mode to get them. When in Battloid mode you unfortunately you have no missiles at all, but the gun will lock on to the enemies and track them. You unfortunately can only rotate 360 degrees, so your open to massive missile attacks but you can get into a gun battle with another VF so when it happens it can be kind of cool just keep your finger on the mode change button to get into jet mode for a fast escape.
     My self being a huge fan of Macross I, ate this up I loved being in battaloid mode hosing the enemy with my pod gun and the switching to jet mode and escaping the swarm of missiles that where coming from ever direction a huge rush, it's like being in the anime.
     In the demo version you only get to fly one type of VF unit but the full game will have six different VFs for you to fly and battle in, so that will give more flexibility in game play. The demo does give a good taste as to what the whole game will be like, for example once you toast all of the bad guys in the demo the end boss that you face is the Ghost all on the backdrop of Macross city, the ghosts acts pretty much as it did in the movie. Slowing to get a missile lock on you firing and the blasting off in it's famous boost jump, and if your to close to it when it happens you can go into a tail spin which is a nice little added effect. The only difference is that you can destroy it without dying your self, and when that happens you know that your a better pilot than Guild ever was.
     As of right now based on the demo alone I want this game, when the game is released it will inculde an image gallery of the different things, like on the demo it showed different VFs along with one image of a MACIII. The music on the demo is decent and I really can't say anything about it till I get to hear the tracks on the full version, that also goes with the graphics as well, their good and could be better and I hope that the final version will better than it is, only time will tell.

     So my rating on the game based on the demo is high, it gets a 8 and maintains a rating of 6 after playing it over and over again. Now remember this is just based on the demo I hope that the real game will be even higher, I'll let you know when it comes out.

     You can find about everything you wanted to know and download programs with an anime theme here. I was even able to get a desk theme of Final Fantasy for my computer too! A lot of great downloads and games to play. I also like the downloads on icons, screen savers (I use the NewEvanglion screen saver myself) and desk themes. If you're interested in having an anime based desk theme check otaku world out. The gaming site is also great if you're stuck on a certain spot for a game. Also regarding to the import games from Japan, you can find the translations on what is going on. Check it out for yourself! You can spend hours just looking at what is offered at this website!

Editor's Warning:
     This is a great site to go to but it does have some Adult Content to it which is mainly with the Kiss program. This program that lets you have download anime characters and dress them up like you would with paper dolls. There are also adult versions of these paper dolls on the site as well, but this area is clearly marked and easy to avoid if you want to avoid it. So just remember with while the page it's self is AC okay, the links from the page may not be so be careful when using the links on that page.
