Week Two: A Church in God’s Will does what it believes.

Titus 1:16 Luke 11:27-28 James 2:14- 26

Let’s read Titus 1:16
1. When you read this verse, how does it make you feel when you hear things like “they claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.”?
2. Paul states to Titus in the second half of the verse; “They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.” How does not acting and doing what you believe in make you unfit for doing anything good?

In Acts 10:38 it says "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.". And in Ephesians 5:1 it states "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children".
3. What instruction does this give the church?

If the Church in God’s Will does what it believes, then we need to identify some things we believe in.
4. Listed below are some typical things in the Bible that a church in God’s Will would believe in.

Let’s discuss the following areas so we can see what a church in God’s Will does: 1. Church Hebrews 10:25
2. Sharing our faith Mark 16:15
3. Being kind Ephesians 4:32
4. Fruit of the Spirit Gal. 5:22-23
5. Giving Luke 6:38
6. Obeying 1 Sam. 15:22
7. Fellowship Acts 2:42
8. Study/Reading of God’s Word Psalm 119:105
9. Prayer 1 Thes. 5:17
10. Doing what really is important. Galatians 5:6

Let’s read Luke 11:27-28
5. How does this verse reinforce what we just discussed?
6. What kind of impact could a church doing what it believes in have on the people surrounding it?
7. What kind of impact could a church have on it’s own people when they do and act on what they believe?

Read the following quote and see how it applies to the lesson:

“Too many hypocrites,” I heard her say
“I even saw it in the headlines today
How can I follow God when His own people turn away”

She said “Nobody’s perfect but I just want to see
Somebody living what they believe

If they’ve got all this world needs like they say
I wonder why won’t they give some away.”
-Steven Curtis Chapman
from the song - “For Who He Really Is”
