Three things are needed to deal with Y2K:

Wisdom
Faith
The Good Works of the Body of Christ

1.Wisdom:

(Proverbs 22:3) "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the
simple keep going and suffer for it."

(Genesis 41:36) "This food should be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine."

The snow/ice storm of the early days of Janurary 1999 shows that we in America live from day to day, and from pay to pay. In the turn of the century in the early 1900's the middle class folks kept pantries due to the feast or famine economy that evolved from the civil war era. People worked to make it thru the hard times but today we are lazy and self indulgant.

Scripture here tells us that the wise see trouble and take refuge, and that in Genesis the grain was stored so that the land would not be ruined. If we are to salt and light in a bad situation shouldn't we live that out and shed light on upcoming troubles, and perservative to possible ruin? Wisdom truly tells us to.

2.Faith

(Matthew 6:33-34)
33 "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

This verse has been run into the ground by well meaning Christians attempting to take a stance on a real big problem with more ramifications than a third world war. Consider what this passage says, seeking first the his Kingdom and his rightousness and not to worry.

This takes faith, real faith. Not frenzy induced, "I gave my pledge", late 20th century faith. This take the kind of faith that the Hebrews 11 saints had. Faith that had nothing to do with provision but everything to do with LIFE. Faith is perfected in the fire of life. We can't expect to have this kind of faith instantly when trouble flys in our face, we need to grow in it now so that it is tested fully (James 1)when Y2K arrives. We need to have faith fully matured so that we can seek God for what we need, and also for those who were foolish not to prepare. Our Lord is going to work a big miracle in 2000, and if we want to act in faith we should do so now in seeking His kingdom, and His rightousness today. This is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."(Hebrews 11:1 paraphrased to fit).

3.The Good Works of the Body of Christ

(Hebrews 6:10) "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them."

(Titus 3:14) "Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives."

(James 2:14-20,26)
"14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.
16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder.
20 You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless ?

26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is
dead."

These three verses sum it all up in the famouse passage from James:"Faith without works is dead" (KJV)

If we learn to act in wisdom on Y2K, then go beyond that to faith, then to complete it all as a unified body of Christ them we should follow the example of scripture and "love thy neighbor as thyself".

To honestly love ones neighbor as ones self an awareness of the surrounding needs must be realaized.

Let's list some of the possible needs that might occur if a Y2K problem disrupts lives and the basics needs of life are challenged:

1. Heat
2. Food
3. Shelter
4. Fellowship
...and the list goes on.

To sum all of this up let's heed the words of finacial expert Ron Blue and computer network pioneer/Bible teacher Chuck Missler from a Focus on the Family special on Y2K:

"Y2K could be the single greatest opportunity for ministry ever for the church....if we are prepared for it."
