FLEET RACE #6
JULY 19TH AT KELLY PARK
For those who came out to race, we had almost perfect weather! Unfortunately, only four fleet members showed up but still had a great time. With the help of the races, Race Committee Dave Foy had the course set and ready for Yellow Flag at 12:50pm. Race 1 started in light wind, 6 mph as measured by our new fleet wind meter, but picked up to 10 mph by the time the fleet reached A-mark for the first time and never dropped for the rest of the day. Race 1 was a course 5 (AC) to make sure we would get enough races in before potential afternoon thunderstorms rolled in. With the increase in windspeed, race 1 lasted a grand total of 13 minutes for the last place boat!
Three races followed, a course 3, course 4, and course 7, before we called it a day. The afternoon thunderstorms never showed up and the wind actually increased to about 12-14 mph as we broke down the boats. All in all, a beautiful afternoon. Results are below.
Dave Andrews ends up the winner in a third tie-breaker. IHCA rules state that we use International Sailing Federation Rules (1997-2000) for tiebreaking. The tie is broken by comparing the number of first place finishes, followed by the number of seconds, thirds, etc. (Do not include throwouts). If that doesn't do it, compare the finishes in the last race sailed that did not include a throw out. Dave and Chuck both had 4 points. Each had 2 firsts and two seconds. Dave beat Chuck in race 4 so he wins!
Following the results are pictures from the race. As I have said before, you have to show up to the events to get in the pictures!
