Ken "Flex" Wheeler
Flex? Aside from the obvious, the name also comes from his flexibility. Flex often does splits and other "ouch-inspiring" feats during his posing routines, putting to rest the notion that bodybuilders are muscle-bound.
The man who has taken the Bodybuilding world by storm in recent years was not always so impressively massive. Like most bodybuilders, Flex Wheeler was not a big kid. He began lifting weights at age 15, and began competing just a year later. He has come a long way: He has become the winingest pro bodybuilder competing today.
Flex Wheeler was blessed with genetics that give him a natural physique for bodybuilding. But don't beleive that genetics is sufficient! Flex is one of the most motivated bodybuilders around, focusing on his competitors for "inspiration." (In other words, he works hard to beat the posing trunks off other bodybuilders!)
But the competitive spirit extends only to his job. Outside the contest arena, he is a kind, gentle person. He is very soft-spoken, but also very frank! Asking Flex a question will not get you nice'n'tidy feel-good fluff in response--he tells it like it is! His honesty makes him well respected and appreciated in the bodybuilding community, and also makes him a better lecturer.
Flex the person is very private. As always with celebrities, Flex tries to keep a low profile off-stage, although he is very amiable to his fans.
He had an unfortunate car accident in 1994 that hampered his career temporarily, but like the fighter he is, he came back stronger than ever after he recovered.
And sorry ladies, Flex was married to Madeline Love in June of 1997!
"Some people see the glory of this sport, but they don't see all the work and
sacrifice that go into it. I don't go hang out. I don't go to movies. I sacrifice all
that. Why? I figure I've been given a gift, and I can use it for only so long. This
is my window in time. I don't want to look back when I'm 45 or 50 and see
what I didn't accomplish because I didn't do the necessary work or didn't
have the maturity to handle it."
Spoken like a champion.
