This commentary from C-Man:
Beach Boys present: Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, David Marks
Support personnel: Adrian Baker, Phil Bardowell, Chris Farmer, Mike Kowalski,
Tim Bonhom, Mike Meros
This was the second show on the first night of a two-night stand (they are scheduled to do two shows again tonight at this same venue), hence the somewhat shorter set.
This was an intimate club-like atmosphere (I met David Marks in the casino prior to this show). On the way in, my buddy and I could hear the band playing CALIFORNIA GIRLS toward the end of the first show, meaning that that show probably opened with SURFIN' SAFARI...evidently they are alternating the opening number to keep it a little bit different. I was afraid that they wouldn't do GOD ONLY KNOWS since Mike announced they were doing "a couple" of songs from an album called "Pet Sounds", then they played SLOOP JOHN B. and WOULDN'T IT BE NICE (which got the biggest crowd reaction of the night), but then Mike said something about how they were going to do this next song in tribute to Cousin Carl Wilson, who passed away a year ago this month. Bruce then sang GOD ONLY KNOWS for Carl. Bruce also did the falsettos on SURF CITY and FUN, FUN, FUN. Adrian did all the other falsettos. David Marks sang the middle part on SURFER GIRL and played all the lead guitar solos, except on CALIFORNIA DREAMIN', the solo of which Phil Bardowell played on a Danelectro 12-string. Chris Farmer sounded EXACTLY like Al Jardine on that song, and actually BROKE a bass string on DO IT AGAIN (never seen ANYONE do that before...Mike Love mentioned it was a first for The Beach Boys, too). When introducing Bruce, Mike mentioned how he took Brian Wilson's place in 1965...Bruce said "No one can take Brian WIlson's place". Mike replied, "Well, that's true, but ONSTAGE at least".
It was a drag to see them without Carl and Al, but kinda cool to see them in a "club" environment, with David Marks (like a flashback to their first national tour).

Eric -
Sorry...I forgot that Phil Bardowell also played the lead guitar solo on BARBARA ANN. So, other than BARBARA ANN and CALIFORNIA DREAMIN', David Marks played all the guitar solos.
