Calling themselves the "real" Beach Boys, Mike & Bruce won the audience over by lambasting Al's "Beach Boys Family & Friends" tour, which had performed just a few weeks earlier and caused confusion and furor among the casual fans. Bruce apparently said that this was "not a paid rehearsal", and the radio ads said not to fall for "cheap imitators". Another note: Apparently, "Surf City" was performed BEFORE "Surfin Safari" for once.
