Beach Boys Concert Flops

The Associated Press

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A Beach Boys benefit concert was a big bust.

The July 28 show was supposed to raise money for American Legion baseball, a summer program for high school players. Instead, it put organizers $10,000 in the red.

Organizer Larry Haneborg said it would have been easier for him to donate $10,000.

Just over 3,000 people attended the weekday concert. Haneborg said it grossed $50,000, but the cost of putting it on was nearly $60,000.

Haneborg said there might not have been enough time to promote the concert. He also said turnout might have been hurt by the fact that the show was held on a Wednesday with temperatures in the 90s.
