"C-Man" writes: "This was Brian's first FULL concert since the Whiskey in 1970 (he joined them the night before in Oakland after the first few songs). It was also the beginning of a long run using CALIFORNIA GIRLS as the opener. This show was filmed for the Beach Boys NBC-TV special broadcast later that summer. This may explain the unusal order of songs (it may have been decided by the show's producer, Lorne Michaels of Saturday Night Live fame, that some songs would work better earlier in the show, thus they were performed while it was still light, while others were performed after the sun had gone down, and were used later in the special). This show also marked the introduction of several songs from the '15 Big Ones" album, which would be released two days later."
