Contributor Brian Ransom writes: "This concert was held at the “Oldies Stage” at the Taste of Minnesota along the Mississippi River across from downtown St. Paul. The event was advertised as “The Endless Summer Band.” Al sang lead for many of the songs and also played lead guitar. It was quite impressive how Al was able to replicate Carl’s fancy finger work on tunes like Dance Dance Dance and Good Vibrations and do extensive riffs on Barbara Ann, Fun Fun Fun, 409, and PT Cruiser. After seeing both Brian and Mike perform within the past year, it is clear that Al has the strongest voice of the surviving Beach Boys and arguably the most enthusiasm." "Surprisingly Al said this was the first time they were going to perform his latest recording, PT Cruiser. The band performed it flawlessly and afterward comment was made that the audience was not singing along to that song like they had done for every song up to that point. Al also sang four lines from “an old drinking song that Dennis used to sing” when he saw boats anchored off the Mississippi River. He sang, “We tapped a keg and loaded on, and woke up to find our boat was gone.” Al further explained the reason for the name “The Endless Summer Band”. He said very openly that he was sued for using the name “Beach Boys” and that the name “Endless Summer Band” is really what the music is about. He immediately followed with a comment that he is still a member of The Beach Boys."
Note: Jeff Celentano was the substitute vocalist for Matt Jardine for this concert.
