Mike Love & The Endless Summer Beach Band

The contributor writes: "Mike is in Santa Barbara recording the tracks for "Looking Back With Love". He did this show at a bar in Goleta that was a hangout for U.C.S.B. students called Hobey Baker's. The band included Bobby Figueroa on drums, Jim Studer on keyboard, Randell Kirsch on bass and Jeff Foskett on guitar. This may be the first gig Foskett ever played with any of the Beach Boys. All the guys except Bobby Figueroa were local Santa Barbara musicians. Many of the arrangements were hastily put together. Help Me Ronda especially is a patching together of a couple of Beach Boy arrangements, but the show was loose and fun. Seeing Mike perform in a noisy, smoky bar is one of my great Beach Boy moments. Funniest moment is when someone hands Mike an alto sax instead of his tenor for the break on Shut Down. Mike actually cops to the crowd that he can only play two notes and doesn't know where those notes are on an alto."

Jeff Foskett writes in: "The gig at Hobey Baker's (correct spelling) was my regular gig with The Reverie Rhythm Rockers (my college band). Love asked if we could do our warm up show there as we had our first legitimate ESBB show the next week in Atlanta, GA for the Sunkist Corporation at Lake Lanier Islands. That was my first time performing on stage with any of the Beach Boys although I had 'jammed' with Brian at his Belagio Road pad in 1975. Thanks for doing this site."
