Professor Tim Orr "The North Mobilizes for War" >>> 7:30pm (NEW TIME) <<<, Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, Richmond, VA., 4602 Cary Street Road, 23226 A parking lot is available behind the church with an entrance off the parking lot to the left and down a few stairs. Professor Tim Orr lectures on the enlistment practices of the Union forces, the lives of soldiers as they went off to battle, and the difficulties of communities in transitioning from peace to war. "The North Mobilizes for War" was a presentation of the 29th annual summer conference of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College. Dr. Orr's presentation to the RCWRT will be similar and then he will make comparisons of the enlistment practices between the North and the South. Dr. Orr, a professor of history at Old Dominion University and a 2001 Gettysburg College graduate has written "Last to Leave the Field." His book tells the story of Ambrose Henry Hayward, a 21-year-old needlemaker from Philadelphia who joined the 28th Pennsylvania. Prof. Orr based much of his research on letters now kept in Special Collections in Gettysburg College's Musselman Library. This promises to be a most interesting topic. Meeting Attendance for: July 2012 = 83 NOTE: Please put on your NAME BADGE on when you arrive for the meeting. (They will be on a table near the back or side of the room.)
