"What the Civil War Means to Me"

Matt hails from Houston, Mississippi.  (Grierson's Raid came through his
town.)  He  attended  Ole Miss and graduated with a Bachelor of Business
Administration and Bachelor of Arts in History.  In 2016, Matt earned  a
Master  of Arts in History at the University of Louisiana - Monroe.  His
thesis is on the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou or, as he would like to  call
it - "Dead Yankees in a Swamp."                                         

Matt  grew up in Mississippi loving the Civil War.  His parents took him
to local battlefields such as Vicksburg and Shiloh.  Matt always  asked,
Dad,  did  we  win here?" and Dad always responded, "No, not here." Matt
had to attend multiple child therapy sessions after  he  discovered  the
South lost the war.                                                     

Matt currently resides in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with his twin  girls,
Emma  and  Aubrey.   He  enjoys  collecting  books  and listening to sad
country songs.

Dinner Speaker:                                                         
Our speaker this year will be Matt  Atkinson,  a  ranger  at  Gettysburg
National Military Park.  The title of his program is "What the Civil War
Means To Me" and he will encourage  audience  participation  during  his
presentation.   Matt  grew  up in Mississippi loving the Civil War.  His
parents took him to local battlefields such  as  Vicksburg  and  Shiloh.
Grierson's  Raid came through his home town, Houston, Mississippi.  Matt
is an energetic speaker who promises to entertain us with stories of the
war.  This is an annual dinner not to miss!

President's Message
Elaine has lined up a terrific event for our November meeting.          

We will gather at the Willow Oaks Country Club, River Oaks Dining  Room,
for a social, supper and speaker event on November 8th at 6 PM This is a
great time to socialize with each other at our meeting  in  a  different
and  beautiful setting.  Our speaker, Matt Atkinson, promises to be very
interesting  and  the  food  is  always  good.   It's  one  of  the  few
opportunities  for  us  to have a great meal and good entertainment at a
very reasonable price.  ($35 per person)                                

Don't hesitate now!  We probably have only a day or two before having to
close  down  the  list.   Please,  get your name on the list with Elaine
SOON!  There will be a cutoff time and we want you to take advantage  of
this opportunity.         (Monday, 11/6)                                

A great way to lead off the Christmas season.
