Short Bread Cookies

2 cups butter

1 cup brown sugar

1/4 tsp. vinilla

4 cups flour

bake 350 deg.

 

Cream butter and add brown sugar. Mix in flour (1 cup of walnut pieces can be added at this time) and vanilla. Knead slightly. Roll and cut into shapes or..... roll in small balls in palm of hands and place on ungreased cookie sheet, press walnut or half cherries in the centre to flatten down. bake at 350 deg. Cooking time depends on the size of cookie of coarse. Remember the longer you play with the dough the tougher it gets.

I use this recipe to make the crisp in Apple crisp. In bowl place flour and then cold butter. Using cold Hands I mix the butter and the flour together until it looks like fine oatmeal. Add sugar and mix well and not compacting it. In a greased cake pan place apples,sugar and alittle flour (to absorb the juices...depending on the apples) . Press apples down abit, and cover evenly with flour mixture. Smooth out and press the flour mixture down with (press fairly firm but not too much) with the back of a large spoon. Bake at 350 deg. 40-60 min.
