Back to PreviewsCommand & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
(STRATEGY) In real-time gaming, Command & Conquer and Warcraft still stand as the forefathers of the genre. It's a fine legacy, but one that Westwood hopes to update with Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, the sequel to C&C. While at first glance, Tiberian Sun might look like a nominal improvement over C&C, it is so much more. The terrain is prerendered 3D like Total Annihilation's, but is much more interactive. You can blow up bridges and warp terrain The units will be voxels (3D pixels), so they'll look more real and move much more fluidly. Westwood originally wanted to go more sci-fi with Tiberian Sun's look, but the company has scaled back the futuristic artillery in favor of keeping the spirit of the game truer to C&C. You'll still have the familiar heavy GDI tanks and invisible NOD stealth tanks, but there will be even more differentiation between the two sides now. Expect the NOD theme of hit-and-run, guerilla warfare to extend even further into its units. And Westwood really wants to give the GDI more personality, so expect its units to pack some powerful surprises. Storywise, Tiberian Sun takes place several years after C&C, when the entire equatorial region of Earth has turned into a mutated jungle, thanks to the spread of Tiberian. Kane returns as the leader of the GDI and is trying to accelerate this Tiberian plague, but the GDI hopes to stop him. Westwood has many more features in store for gamers, features that we think will restore Command & Conquer to prominence once again in this genre. Stay hooked and we'll give you more on this fascinating game.
