What is E3 Anyway?!

Gamers who have never had the opportunity to the check out the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) are probably swelling with curiousity simply because the event is only to be attended by professionals from the industry. E3 has garnered the title of "the world's largest trade show exclusively dedicated to interactive entertainment, educational software, and related products." "So it's the world's largest show. Big deal!" you say. "How large can one show possibly be--the size of five football fields, maybe ten?" Try 534,000 net square feet of exhibit- and meeting-room space. That's the equivalent of 35 football fields! When I say this show is big, I'm not kidding. In fact, there are going to be more industry "professionals" (30,000) attending this year's three-day event than there were Indonesian students during Monday's heated anti-Suharto protests. Game developers and publishers from all over the world convene here yearly to strut their digital stuff. Whether showing a new game or technology, these exhibitors are hoping to capture the attention of the attendees wandering through the labyrinth of over 440 booths. No one can argue the usefulness of being able to check out over 1,600 entertainment titles all in one location.
