Back to PreviewsHeroes of Might and Magic III
(ROLE PLAYING) Now that Might and Magic VI has been released, Jon Van Canegham and crew are hard at work on Heroes of Might and Magic III. The much-loved and addictive turn-based, fantasy strategy game is set for a late winter release, and should wow long-time fans. Everything in this game is bigger and better. While the graphics will continue to be lush 2D and the system will remain turn-based. The game picks up where Might and Magic VI leaves off. You will actually be represented in the game now with a hero character, in addition to the heroes you can hire in your castles. There will now be eight castle types, with two types of heroes per castle, for a total of 16 different hero types or classes. The RPG-lite system for the heroes will stay, but there will now be more skills to learn. The magic system will be redone, with schools of magic. Of course, some classes will be better at certain magic than others. All heroes now must equip their artifacts on a mannequin. That means only one weapon per hero, one pair of boots, one set of gauntlets, and so on. The tactical combat will be improved with a battlefield twice as large as Heroes II's, and a "wait" command will finally be added (it didn't make it into Heroes II, but Van Canegham says it is likely for III).
