Hi! This is Gearhead_3's Homepage for my 1994 Plymouth Duster. I am the Poderator of the Carbureator Junction Pod and this is my present
daily driver! When I started looking around for a daily car to get me back and forth to work I couldn't find anything I was happy with. The automobiles out there were too similar! However, I finally realized I had to compromise! I could not afford a Corvette or the insurance on it with a 18 year old driver in the house. I did not find the Camaro Z-28, Mustang or Firebird an acceptable answer for the same reason. In fact any really sporty, powerful car was out! My daughter would be approaching driving age shortly and my teenage son was already driving! The result was the purchase of the 1994 Plymouth Duster you see here. It is a Diamond Star Motors product with a Mitsubishi OHC V-6, 3.0 Liter engine and 5 speed transmission. The engine only produces 141 HP but puts out 171 foot pounds of torque. Add in the fact that the car only weighs 2600 pounds and the power and torque curve are very broad and flat and peak at a low rpm. This makes the car a lot of fun to drive while the insurance is affordable and it still gets 20 mpg!
The car originally came with ugly pink Duster decals, I retro-fitted some 1970 Duster decals, one from a Duster 340 which I changed to read Duster 3.0 on the trunk lid! This same decal is on the front plate. I nicknamed the car "Snowy" for two reasons, it is very white and we bought it on the downside of a snowstorm on February 11, 1994!
Beside a tempermental clutch I enjoy everything about this car although the light weight and torque make it too easy to burn rubber, attracting attention that is sometimes unwanted.
