In 1964, Marion received her B.A. from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX. She went on to do her graduate studies from 1965-67 at the University of California, Berkeley.
Marion started writing when she was young, turning to science-fiction and fantasy as a teenager. She wrote dozens of books over the course of her life, some of which are still being published even now, as they were written but not published by the time of her death. Marion wrote everything from science-fiction to Gothic, but is probably best known for her Darkover novels.
Marion was also an editor for many different magazines, including her own. The Marion Zimmer Bradley FANTASY Magazine was founded in 1988 and continued to be published until 2000. She also edited an annual anthology for DAW books called "Sword and Sorceress".
Marion Zimmer Bradley died on September 25, 1999 in Berkeley, CA after suffering a major heart attack.
