BIRTH/CHR: all records of children are from the St. Peter's Vestry Register pages: 337, 376, 379,474, 475, 476, 477
of Kent Co. VA
NOTE: p. 222 "Phyllis Moone got son John levy free because of convelsions fitts and much burnt."
The above took place at a Vestry held for St. Peter's Parish 20 April 1731. For the next several
years up to Nov. 1745, Phyllis was given special dispensation at Vestry meetings because of
John's condition. The last entry was on page 285 for Vestry Meeting 13 Nov. 1744 for 1745.
These special dispensations usually were in the form of several hundred pounds of tobacco
ranging from 700 to 967 lbs. Page 289 notes a Vestry Meeting held 11 Oct. 1746 where a Stephen Moon
was given 967 pounds of tobacco for keeping his brother John. From this, one can safely conclude
that Phyllis Moon, wife of Stephen Jr. died between 13 Nov. 1745 and 11 Oct 1746. No further records
have been found by the writer of this history regarding Phyllis or the other children of Stephen Jr.
and Phyllis Moon or Moone. Other than a Vestry Register entry that a daughter, Betty, was born to Stephen
and Margaret Moon 14 Jan. 1729/30. Jacob born 1717 and William born 1720 are not heard from again until
they appear in Albemarle Co., VA about one hundred miles west of Kent Co. Much erroneous information has
been published regarding these two brothers and their families in Albemarle Co.Virgina.

Miss Charlotte "Lottie" Moon

Lottie Moon is one of the most famous of the Virginia Moon's. She was born on Dec. 12,
1840 at Viewmont, a country home in Albermarle to Edward Harris Moon and Anna Maria
Barclay Moon. She devoted her life teaching to the Chinese people about God as a
missionary for the Southern Baptist Church.

Many biographies have been written about Lottie. The newest is
by Catherine B. Allen called "The New Lottie Moon Story".
It was published in 1980 by Broadman Press of Nashville, Tennessee.
