Im Memory of Those Special Friends, Loved and Lost

Jack was our first baby, a tiny little fellow of 8 weeks or so when we got him from the pound. As he grew, he and I developed a very special bond such as I have never had with another animal. He seemed to know what I was thinking at times, and to understand every spoken word. He was truly the most wonderful dog I have ever known. At the age of only 9 years, he developed kidney failure and was lost to us in December, 1994. I still grieve for Jack, my dearest friend.

Kitty was our only cat, and he was a wonderful cat. He didn't have any bad habits, and was very good with the dogs and later, the birds that filled our home. He was a calm, peaceful cat. He passed away at only 11 years of age, in 1996. He still holds a place in our hearts and always will.

Taffy captured our hearts at the age of two. We went to the pound just to look, and it was love at first sight. A bulldog mix, she had a face and body that few would consider beautiful. (We did). She had the largest most soulful brown eyes I have ever seen. We took her home and cared for her. Her always-happy nature and love of life were truly an inspiration to us. Then, at the age of only 11 years, she developed cancer of the urethra and was lost to us July 18, 1998. Her sudden demise was a great shock to us. We are still trying to understand why she was taken from us.

Taffy and Jack

Here is a picture of Taffy (left) and Jack (right) taken years ago, in the early 90's. When they were full of life and love and vigor. This is how I remember them best. Jack, with his laughing eyes and wagging tail. Taffy, her whole body wiggling with happiness. Running around in the big yard we got for Jack, who just loved to be outdoors.

Until We Meet Again, My Friends...

They came into our lives and gave us so much, asking so little in return. They filled a special place in our hearts that can never be filled by another. Now they are gone and sorely missed.

We believe we will see our lost but still beloved pets again, when we are called home. There by the rainbow bridge that crosses the chasm from this life to the next, there they wait for us, watching and longing for us. They know that we will meet them there some day. What joy will fill all our hearts when that day comes! When I will see them again and they will jump on me and woof at me and wag their tails and their bodies, and rub up against me. Until that day, they wait together. Until that day, they live on in my heart, young and happy and full of life and love. In the meantime, they are happy, they are young again, they can run and play and sniff and bark and enjoy the sunshine and the rain....just as I remember them.

Willy....little Willy...you were so precious, your life so short...we will never forget your big brown eyes and your beautiful black and white coat. You were a cute little puppy. We only had you a few days...you never really had a chance to live before disease took you. We did everything to save you but it was your time to go. We look forward to the day we will see you again...at the Rainbow Bridge.

CHARLIE....I never expected I would be adding you next. You were a sweet little orange chinned parakeet, Louie's love for two years, and mine. You could whistle pretty tunes, and you could talk in a cute little voice! You were fierce in defense of your cage and Louie, but by yourself you were sweeter than Louie ever was. You were a joy to have in the house. Now you, too, have gone to wait at the Rainbow Bridge, but too soon...too soon...you should have been here with us many more years. Your last days with us, you were not yourself, you were so sick...I'll never forget your last moments, when I held you in my hand and talked and sang to you, while you got weaker and weaker...until with one last valiant effort you raised your head to Louie, then died in my hand. Charlie, we miss you so much.
