Brief History of Scouting Cub Scouting was founded in 1916 by Lord Baden-Powell, 9 years after he founded Boy Scouting. By following the story from The Jungle Book (by Rudyard Kipling), the pack has a life as the Seeonee Pack did. Akela, the oldest wolf was the chief of the pack who had led the pack to a successful life. Besides Akela, the pack still had some other Jungle Masters such as Bear Baloo, Bobcat Bagheera, Elephant Hathi, Bird Chil and Snake Kaa to support the Pack’s activities. Mowgli was a boy who was raised in the jungle for a period of time before being returned to the mankind village. Just as Mowgli, a cub scout in a cub pack would have a similar life. He would learn many things to enable him to survive under the difficulties and obstacles of the jungle. Pack 831 was re-organized in 1996 after an absence of 3 years. We have been working hard and have accomplished many things over the past two years and hope to have yet another successful year ahead. Scouting would not be possible without the dedication of our Volunteer Leaders and Assistants. We also commend all the parents who help and participate in our activities, as cub scouting is where we all grow into better people, young and old.
BOBCAT REQUIREMENTSAll Cub Scouts must obtain their Bobcat Rank before moving on to their Wolf, Bear or Webelos Rank. Bobcat is a Rank advancement within the Wolf, Bear or Webelos den. When a boy becomes a Cub Scout, his parent helps teach him his Bobcat requirements: Learning the Cub Scout Promise, Law of the Pack, handshake, salute, sign, and motto and explain what each one means.
