While home attendance for North Dakota hockey games has generally been good, Fighting Sioux athletic officials are looking for ways to fill some empty seats in the student section. Coach Dean Blais recently met with UND student association members in hopes of finding a
plan which will allow the school to sell unused seats in the student section as general admission tickets shortly after the start of each game. UND students are allotted more than 2,000 free seats in the 6,600-seat Ralph Englestad Arena, but the school currently has no ability to sell student seats which are not used, leading to many
sellouts with hundreds of empty seats in the student section. School officials hope to try selling the unused student seats on a trial basis at UND's Oct. 27 home game versus the University of Manitoba.

UND Students do not leave "hundreds of empty seats" for the duration of the entire season as this bogus article is implying. Here is the real story. The people pushing this ticket proposal are using one series last season as proof: Last year's Sioux-Gopher series which was 1) Saturday-Sunday afternoon, and 2) On a three-day weekend. Some students had to work, and others wanted to go home for the extended break. What the promoters of this plan aren't telling you is that except for holiday weekends and afternoon series, the student section is full almost all of the time. The reserved section, on the other hand, is becoming more like Marriucci with seats that are sold but empty. It is the students that are the most dedicated fans of Fighting Sioux Hockey, not the season ticket holders who don't show up half the time. As I was saying, I guess if you give hundreds of dollars to the athletic department each season you can buy seats and not use them and that's okay. But, if you're a student who misses a couple of games to go home for an extended weekend or christmas, then it's "unfair to working people" and "needs to be changed". Can you say E-L-I-T-I-S-M?!?!

The article is not bogus. You can read the article on the internet in the USA today under WCHA notes. So is the USA today lying ? Maybe there is conspiracy going on to bring down the UND hockey program. All you UND fans are so paranoid.

I didn't say the article didn't exist, I was saying that what it implied was inaccurate and misleading. I am also saying that the proponents of this plan are using bogus criteria. I've been to every home game since the 1993-94 season, and I KNOW what the patterns are for both student and reserved sections. And the student section is more full than the reserved section. This is a fact, a fact that the USA Today did not mention.

A: I'm not sure if I would be interested or not. I like the kids I have here right now. They've loyal to our program and I'm loyal to them. I think Doug (Woog) is pretty solid there at Minnesota now.
