How    the    Gulf    War    Started

The Gulf War started when Iraq invaded Kuwait for its oil supply. Iraq had attempted to invade because Kuwait has rich oil fields. If this succeeded, Iraq would have been well on its way to becoming a world power. It would be richer than China or India, Iraq would have been on its way to becoming a world power (in military forces). This was the creation of another evil empire and would be bad news for everybody, and in the long run and bad for the future peace.

Iraq would not only be an evil empire with its access to rich Kuwaitis oil. It would also have unlimited power and money to conquer its neighbors as well as monopoly over the oil.

Every nation in the world depends on oil. Every one was well aware of the oil crisis in 70s and 80s when OPEC nations decided to cut the supply of oil, which led to multiple effect of inflation, stagflation. America were effected, so was all the rich and poor nations of the world because of OPEC’s decision. Should Iraq have invaded Kuwait it would play a major role in determining the supply of oil and world and with again succumb to this crisis.

This had America-Bush Administration- alarmed, world already had one evil empire (Reagan’s view of Soviet Union as an evil empire), a new one with tyrant leader “Saddam Hussein” would be too much to handle. America had to take action, and it had to convince other nations to take action against the invasion of Kuwait and to stop Saddam before he has full control of Kuwait.

To solve this crisis-Iraq invasion over Kuwait, UN resolution 678 was passed in favor of authorizing the allies to use the force to expel Iraq from Kuwait. This was done after imposing series of trade embargo against Iraq, depriving it of imported supplies and export earnings.

However, the large scale development of allies forces build up and attempts by allied and American Government pressure to Iraq to leave Kuwait seemed much in vain to Saddam Hussein. The war was imminent, so in Jan 15 1991 allied forces attacked on Iraqi soil.
