   ELLEN,born 1850 in CANADA,Was the oldest
of DANIAL and MARYS children.DANIAL had seven
children by his first Marriage and also seven by his
last..    ELLEN married William DEVAULL, born 1857 in Canada. They had one adopted son CHARLES DEVAULL. ELLEN died--9-6-1927 in HOUSTON TEXAS.Actually Ellen died some time befor that date. Thehe letter in which it mentioned her death was so dated.. Ellen and her husband were still living in CAYUGA North Dakota in 1921,she eventualy moved to Houston Texas as did her brother AUSTIN CRYAN..    AUSTIN was probably the first of his family to settle in North Dakota, near GENESEO..
Eventually all would settle in the general area. He is listed to have come to the US from CANADA in 1870. His youngest son JOHN preceded them in death. He had belonged to the 111th Marine Regiment..
A military funeral was held.    JAMES was my grandfather,I was 12 yrs old when he died,so I remember him very well..He was usually in good spirits and he made sure my sister and I had a Shamrock pinned on,on St. Patrick`s day. He also liked to sing old Irish songs, and play checkers and Euchre..    In a letter of intent to become a Citizen filed in Richland Co. N.Dak.he stated that he emigrated to the U.S. and landed in Waddington New York in 1870. This letter was filed on 7-8-1882 in Richland county.. At some point after this he went back to Canada, and is listed in the 1891 census in Kingston Ont. Can.AS follows... District 64 Frontenac south dist. 6 Kingston Twsp |

The next record I have of James Cryan is when he again filed a letter of intent in Cass County North Dakota on 4-5-1893-- He filed for citizen papers on 12-10-1899 in Sargent county North Dakota..He had two witnesses,William F. Scott and Fred George... In the mid nineteen thirties, North Dakota did some research on the early settlers. The researchers were part of the WPA program. I obtained records from North Dakota State University library, of the following information James Cryan gave to them in 1938. A sister Mary(she married a Hickey)and a half brother William Keating who was the town marshall in Havana at one time. He had a daughter Midi who married Art Miller Sr.There children were Evelyn, Gladys,Arthur and Phillis

Thomas own quite a bit of land, some in Canada, and also about a section near Havana. I found the record of his death in Lidgerwood N.Dak.At the Catholic church,it stated his mothers maiden name as MORAN.. Michael born 10-20-1860    Mike also was a farmer,he lived in Kingston township,Sargent County. In the 1900 census it lists Mike as head of household, also living with him was his brother Joseph and mother Mary. I believe I mentioned before that Mike and my grandfather JAMES wintered in Texas with another brother (Austin) Who lived in Houston. Mike left a pretty sizable estate.and I got quite a bit of info from his Joseph born Jan.-1863    JOSEPH was the youngest child of Danial and Mary CRYAN.He filed his letter of intent in Forman N.Dak. on 4-14-1892 and became a citizen on 11-2-1900.
