Guild Space
History:
Consolodation / Capitalism Era
2000 - Plans are set in motion to send a manned expidition
to Mars
2002 - The first buckytubes are sysnthesized in a lab.
The first Earth gravity skyhooks are theorized.
2004 - The begining of widespread Environmental social
& political movements in South America and Southeast Asia.
2008 - The first SSTO craft is put into service by a
multinational corporation
2009 - As a result of the environmental movement, many
industies relocate to Africa.
2010 - A multinational space station is errected in high
Earth orbit.
2013 - Celene station, the first continuously manned
station on the moon, is established as a joint ESA / NASA project.
2014 - An a political alliance is forged between Libya,
Egypt, and other north African nations. This new alliance is called the
North African Combine. At the head of this new regime is a charismatic
dictator by the name of Hudari.
2015 - The Naakimira corporation errects their own permanent
high-orbital station.
2017 - Celene station, on the verge of being shut down
due to cost expenditures, is purchased by a Japanese corporation.
2019 - The Naakimara station suffers an inexplible explosion,
killing all hands.
2020 - The political pressure of the Environmental movement
combined with depletion of many easily retreivable mineral resources on
Earth begin to cause financial distress in industrial nations.
2021 - Investigation suggests that the Naakimira station
explosion was not an accident, but corporate sabotage. Tesnions between
Japanese corporations rage.
2023 - Reports emerge of disputes - some violent - between
Japaneese corporations.
2024 - Journalists uncover evidence of widespread sales
of stockpiled arms to the NAC by Iraq and former Soviet republics. Tensions
between Israel and the NAC heat up.
2025 - Sudan, Ethiopia, and Zaire join the NAC. The United
Nations Assembly accuses of coercion tactics by the NAC.
2026 - The NATO threatens to use force in the North African
situation. Russia warns that any military mobilization will be met by use
of force on their part.
2028 - NASA, in cooperation with an American corporation,
visit and establish a temporary base on asteroid 1997 XF11 when it approaches
Earth.
2029 - After a suspicious coup, South Africa joins the
NAC, making it the PAC (Pan African Combine.)
2030 - Americans, Europeans, and Russians lease space
on Celene station. A mass driver is set up to deliver mining products to
Earth orbit.
2031 - Fermilabs shows remarkable progress in the sustained
fusion project. They announce that they expect it will be possible to have
a fusion reactor producing energy by the end of the century.
2032 - Iraq joins the Pan-African combine.
- A sort of "Corporate Civil War"
breaks out in Japan. The US sends forces in to stablize the region, but
do not directly intervene.
2034 - The PAC launches a full scale attack on Israel
and Turkey. US Forces, at a minimal level due to over 30 years of draw-downs,
are unable to cope immeditely with the threat. Thousands are killed in
gas attacks on Israel.
2035 - A massive military sweep by the PAC gives them
control of all African nations south of former Zaire. Many major corporations
loose major industrial facilities in the blitz.
2036 - Due to the possession of major Uranium deposits
in South Africa, the PAC is beleived to have nuclear weapons capability.
2037 - The Russians finally agree that the African situation
has gotten out of hand, and combine forces with NATO. Russian and French
forces secure Turkey's borders and take Iraq. American forces free Israel.
2038 - PAC forces mobilize to counter-attack. PAC forces
are sure that they have perfect defense against any missile or air attacks.
The world is stunned when a major elements of PAC forces are destoyed by
precision strikes from the Celene mass driver.
2039 - PAC negotiates a peace that includes the surrender
of their leader and restoration of industrial complexes to the owning corporations.
2042 - Two years later than their projected window, an
industrial fusion plant goes online in Bon, Germany.
2044 - Confident that the level of cooperation experienced
in the African conflict can lead to better things, the Russians, Amaricans,
and Europeans embark on a program to send a manned mission to Mars.
2048 - Supporting the Mars effort, a space station "LS1"
is set up in one of the Lagrange points.
2049 - The first man - or rather, Woman - sets foot on
Mars - Eva Konnig of the ESA. Samples taken on the Mars mission verify
that microbial life once existed on Mars.
2050 - An unexpected side effect of the African conflict,
areas surrounding those bombarded by moon rocks become lush gardens.
2053 - Jaren Miller, a political theorist, becomes well
known for his Socio-economic control theory, which mathematically models
political, economic, and social situations. Jaren uses his theory mostly
in the academic arena where he mathematically shows the forces at work
behind major events in Earth's history.
2054 - Industrial developments in space that occured
during the PAC conflicts has, by this time, solidly establish several companies'
permanent presence in space.
2056 - The Neuman-Vitek corporation announces their plans
to place a beanstalk on their private island in the pacific.
2058 - Originally intended as a support station for various
intra-system missions, LS1 becomes a major industrial and research station
with permanent residents.
2059 - Miller releases his latest research. Miller attests
that the reason that the 20th century Soviet Union failed was not because
Socialism is an economically unfeasible scheme, but because the Soviet
Union did not have a mathematical quality that Miller calls "Socio-economic
controlability."
2060 - In the wake of Miller's research, many new theories
of Socialism take hold.
2064 - Groups of idealists strongly criticize Miller's
theories, citing that divergence from current political theory would be
the source for more international tesnion.
2065 - Physicists and engineers at MIT show that a fission
powered stardrive is possible, but due to longstanding bans on nuclear
weapons, no nation is willing to implement the plan.
2068 - Peace activists advocate a new era of international
peace.
