Guild Space History:
Alliance Era
2073 - 50% of all world power is provided by fusion plants.
2075 - The Former NATO nations and Russia sign a long
lasting alliance. Follow on treaties include opening national border and
lowering international tarriffs. The Pan African Combine sees this as a
possible threat and tensions raise.
2082 - In Japan and other Pacific locales, Corporations
handle almost every aspect of daily life. China allows Japanese and Southeast
Asian corporations into their borders in order to help stave off economic
crises resulting from resource scarcity.
2083 - All allaince nations institute a common currency,
the credit. The credit stablizes international markets suffering from resource
depletion. Alliance nations become known as the "Credit Nations Cooperative
(CNC)."
2084 - Tenebin, a bioengineered drug, is shown to slow
the aging process drastically. The European magacorp resonsible for the
drug begins manufacture.
2086 - Wide scale legislation occurs on the subject of
population control; the manufacture of Tenebrin threatens to unbalance
the economy and renew threats of a population crunch.
2090 - Neuman-Vitek's beanstalk goes into service. Cost
of orbital transit is trivialized.
2093 - Japanesse corporations begin large scale operations
in earnest in space, including their own plans for beanstalks. Corporations
of other nations are close to follow; with population levels worldwide
having reached peak, corporations begin to see fostering expansion into
space as the only possible means of acheiving long-term economic growth.
2098 - The governments of most Southeast Asian nations
now pale next to the corporations that call them home. The Asian Coalition
is formed, but it exists mostly an entity of convenience for Asian corporations.
2100 - The Asian Coalition begins a Mars terraforming
project.
2106 - The Credit Nations complete the conversion of
LS1 to a full-fledged L5 colony. Two more L5 stations are planned.
2109 - Russian and American scientists complete plans
for a fusion rocket powered interplanetary spacecraft called the Magellan.
Laws and public protests prevent the launching of the Magellan from
the Earth's surface under fusion power; the Magellan must be completed
somewhere other than the Earth's surface.
2110 - The Magellan begins construction. Selected
parts are made on Earth, but the bulk of construction occurs at Celene
station on the moon.
2112 - Japanese corporations end the CNC lease on the
Celene station mass driver. CNC officials accuse the corporations of trying
to hold up progress on the Magellan; the Japanese corps claim it
is simply to accomodate the terraforming of Mars.
2119 - CNC makes Luna City, and starts up their own mass
driver. The new mass driver is much larger than the original Celene mass
driver. The CNC moves the hull of the Magellan to Luna city.
2125 - After extensive delays, the CNC launch the Magellan
on a manned mission to Ceres in the asteroid belt. Surveys show long term
mining prospects are excellent.
2134 - The Luna City facility builds a huge maser/laser
facility to launch a mission to Jupiter. The CNC government allows corporations
to handle the operation.
2143 - Room temperature superconductors are realized.
A new wave of technology begins to come into being, and a new development,
"hot" superconductors are theorized.
2145 - CNC has completed 3 L5 facilities and 2 permanent
asteroid bases.
2154 - "Hot" superconductors are realized, but require
alloys of technecium and rare-earth metals. Extensive asteroid mines are
planned to fill the requirement for rare earth materials.
2158 - The Pan African Combine place their own station
in orbit.
2160 - The CNC contracts a huge fusion jet powered ore
carrier, the Collossus.
