Fathom Preview is pretty much that, a preview.
Done entirely in black and white, except for a
color pin-up by Marc Silvestri, Michael Turner
gives us a quick glimpse into the underwater
world of Fathom. There are also some Turner
sketches of characters and action scenes that do
nothing but wet your appetite for the incredible
story to come.

Fathom #0

#0 provides a variety of scenes from Aspen
surfing, to the underwater dwellers invasion of
the Deep Marine Discovery (DMD) facility. All
this imagery is accompanied by a narrative in
which Aspen briefly explains her background
and obsession with the world beneath the
surface.

Fathom # 1

Presented in 3 variants, Fathom's first issue
brieflyintroduces some of the story's major
and minor characters, and includes a glimpse of
the mysterious return of the cruise ship Paradise,
which was previously lost for 10 years! Not only do
you get 3 variant covers, but each issue provides
3 different panels of interior artwork as well as
3 different character points-of-view.

We also get to see test-pilot Chance in some
early action with a futuristic underwater
Navy plane, as well as a glimpse of the
underwater dwellers water-craft.

Fathom # 2

All hell breaks loose, as the DMD underwater
facility is severely damaged from an unintentional
torpedo launched by a Navy submersible jet fighter,
which just happens to be piloted by Chance.
As everything comes falling down, lives are lost,
chances are taken, and the battle for Aspen begins.

Fathom # 3

Nearly a hundred deaths occurred as a result
of the torpedo launched by pilot Chance Calloway.
Of the key characters, it's revealed that
Jack Gregory is among the casualties. Aspen,
Cannon Hawke and Akiko Nigata have survived,
but Alexander Jarvis' status is still unknown.
After being repremanded, Chance still can't get
the image of Aspen in the water out of his mind.
So he sets off to talk with Aspen in person to
attempt to figure out exactly what's he's gotten
himself into. As for Killian, he and his people
and their grand plan are still on schedule.
At this point, we still don't know exactly what
their objectives are, but apparently they involve mass
destruction and terror, as members of his group
tear into a Japanese mining rig, killing all aboard.
As for Killian, his target is still Aspen, and now he's
closing in on her at home.

Fathom # 4

Killian's men make their move on Aspen
by attempting toto kidnap her. But, Cannon
Hawke has other ideas as he steps in to thwart
their plans. It's during this rescue that we finally
get proof that Cannon is more than he appears.
Cannon has no problem operating an underdweller
sea-craft, doing battle underwater without the
need for oxygen and displaying his water
manipulation abilities. Ultimately Cannon fails,
and Killian's men make off with Aspen. Meanwhile,
Killian escalates the tension between Japan and the
United States by using his outerspace facility to destroy
a US submarine that was in the vicinity of Japanese
fighter planes. This leads the US to send in their figters
who promptly shoot down the Japanese. We are left
wondering just how far the US and Japan are from war,
and a scene of Killian amassing his troops.

Fathom # 5

Killian is beginning to tell Aspen everything. Well,
everything according to him. Aspen is told how the humans
on the surface are threatening the underwater dwellers, and
the time has come to stop them. Most importantly, Aspen
learns that she is Killian's key to achieving a takeover of
the earth, because she possesses special powers unlike
any other. Meanwhile, Chance is drowning his sorrows
in alcohol, and is sudenly confronted by Cannon who is
seeking his help in rescuing Aspen. The real turning point in
this issue though, is the stealth bombing of a Japanese military
base in response to the sinking of the U.S.S. Sea Wolf.
The orders come via Admiral Maylander, who now has
certainly thrown down the gauntlet between the U.S. and
Japan.

Fathom # 6

Killian leads a mission to stop Japanese special
forces from destroying an American fuel reserve.
But don't think his intentions are good.
Rather, his objective is to test Aspen's skills in combat,
as well as raise the level of hostility between
Japan and the U.S. A somewhat unsure Aspen performs
to Killian's approval, when she uses her new powers to kill
a Japanese soldier threatening her.
We are also given a glimpse of just how powerful Aspen is,
as she learns how to use her abilities
to energize and control a device of immense power,
whose purpose has yet to be explained.
Meanwhile the Japanese, who think the U.S. has again
dealt a blow to their military might,
decide to take the hostilities to the next level
by launching an air attack on U.S. Navy ships.
And as Admiral Maylander meets with Killian,
we learn that he has had an uneasy alliance with
Killain for quite some time.
