Story:

Sydney Bloom is one of the Blooms' twins. When she was 12 years old, she saw her father and her twin, Samantha Bloom, died in a tragic accident after their family car plunged into a deep river. Her mother is paralysed after taking an overdose of sleeping pills, or at least that is what she remembers. Since then, Sydney lives alone in her spacious apartment and works for TelCal, a local telephone company. Her shy personality, however, makes it difficult for her to have a lot of friends. Her only friends are her childhood neighbour, Duncan, and her computer, which she uses often to explore the cyber space. One day, after accidentaly placing her telephone on a modem, Sydney found out that she is capable of accessing VR.5: Virtual Sensory Reality and soon realised that the co-worker to whom she was attracted to is actually a serial killer. Sydney, who needs help in understanding her newfound capabilities, acquinted herself to Dr. Frank Morgan, a professor in VR field.

DR.FRANK MORGAN

Story:

Dr. Frank Morgan was genuinely concerned for Sydney's well being, even though at first he was reluctant to get involved in her problem. After failed in convincing Sydney to stop accessing VR.5, he introduced her to a secret organisation called 'the Committee'. Dr. Morgan later on realised that Sydney's involvement with 'the Committee' endageres herself and therefore he asked 'the Committee' to let her go. 'The Committee', unfortunately, does not want to let her go and decided that Dr. Frank Morgan starts to confuse his professional opinion with his personal feelings. A professional assassin called Jackson Boothe then is hired by 'the Committee' to stop Dr. Morgan's further involvement with Sydney's problems. One night, when he tried to tell Sydney what actually happened to her father, Dr. Morgan is stabbed by Jackson Boothe. His last word to Sydney: "It's not what you think" leads Sydney to investigate what actually happened to Dr. Morgan and her father. Sydney then finds out that Dr. Frank Morgan's body is frozen by 'the Committee' in a caster marked "5D". The questions of who did it and why is still unanswered.

Story:

Duncan was Sydney and Samantha's childhood friend who spent most of his time with the Blooms than with his own family. Duncan is now living on top of Sydney's apartment for the reason of "Synchronism with the universe". Sydney considers him as a brother she never had and from time to time involved him in her assignment. Later on, Duncan realised that like Sydney, he is also capable of accessing VR.5.

Story:

Oliver Sampson was assigned to be Sydney's next contact after Jackson Boothe stabbed Dr. Frank Morgan. He turns out to have a deeper connection with 'the Committee' and therefore Sydney was reluctant to trust him. It was Oliver who finally shot Jackson Boothe, who he tought was going to kill Sydney, and he also the one who gave Sydney her father's journal.

SAMANTHA BLOOM

Story:

Thought to have been dead in a car accident that happened in her childhood, Samantha Bloom slowly showed her existence to her twin sister, Sydney. She claims that she never knew about the accident and she actually was kidnapped together with their father, Dr. Joseph Bloom, on that fateful night. Since then Samantha and her father lived in East Germany and moved around by the kidnappers from one country to another. After successfully run away from their kidnappers and reached LA, Samantha and her father used their old family house as a hiding place. In order to confuse 'the Committee', Dr. Bloom used VR.8 to transfer some parts of Samantha's personality into a paid agent called Alexis Miller. Meanwhile, Samantha used a pseudonim name to prevent her actual name to be recognised by anyone. When a fire burned the old family house, Samantha bravely saved a young girl named Rebecca and thought to be an Angel by the girl. After her father run away from her for an unknown reason, Samantha finally decided to make a contact with her twin sister. On an airport, she appeared right in front of Sydney's eyes who was about to fly to Kowloon.
