Welcome
to the Raider Gallery. The gallery is intended for the casual and serious
fan alike to enjoy the past, present and future accomplisments of the Oakland
Raiders. There have been many past great Raider players such as Kenny Stabler,
Dave Casper, Jack Tatum and the list is endless. The Raiders have some
of the leagues most exciting players to watch in Tim Brown, Napolean Kaufman
and Jeff George, but in Al Davis' words the greatness of the Raiders is
in their future.
Rookie draft
picks Charles Woodson, Jon Ritchie and Mo Collins can only mean the Raiders
are poised to be an exciting team for years to come. The untimely death
of Leon Bender will leave many fans wondering what might have been, but
Leon Bender will always be remembered as a Raider through the ages even
though he was never able to play a down.
I will take
a look at the history of the organization through the teams early beginnings
through the glory years to the move to Los Angeles and its subsequent return
to Oakland. The failed attempts with Mike Shanahan, Mike White and most
recently Joe Bugel.
I've been a
loyal Raider fans since 1967 and I've seen the great successes and the
miserable failures. Like many of you with renewd optimisim I'm hoping for
a return to the glory days of yesteryear, but I'm also a realist and I
won't allow that to cloud my better judgement.
I hope Jon
Gruden will right the ship and bring the Raiders, their fans and the city
of Oakland the success they are accoustomed to. I can only hope that the
new Gruden-Era Raiders will begin a new tradition of winning and a return
to excellence.
