MINUTES of the Annual Parish Meeting

1. Present

Mr TJ Howkins in the chair, 8 other members of the Parish Council, County Councillor K Oliver and 17 members of the public.

Apologies for absence received from Mrs J Booth and Mr J Clowes

2. Minutes

The minutes of the 2001 Annual Parish Meeting were read approved and signed as an accurate record.

3. Financial Report

The Clerk presented a brief report on the Council’s finances.

4. Chairman’s Report

The Chairman read a report on the last Council year and on items for the future.

5. "Village Volunteers"

Mrs SJ Maddock presented a brief report on planting and other work carried out in the village centre following the formation of this group after last year’s meeting.

6. Golden Jubilee

The following were announced:

• Parish Council would provide mugs for Primary School children
• British Legion Band Concert
• Jubilee Concert
• Fire Brigade willing to take part if event organised at Leisure Centre.

1. Questions

The Chairman opened the meeting for questions and questions were raised on the following issues:

• All day parking near to M6 junction
• Additional parking in village centre
• Poor drainage on Middlewich Road following recent resurfacing
• Need to enforce double yellow lines – particularly new ones on Brookfield Drive
• Weight of lorries through village – shaking properties
• Need for pedestrian crossings on Middlewich Road, Macclesfield Road and possibly Chester Road
• Crossing village centre
• Lack of depth of kerbs on Macclesfield Road
• Need for flashing speed limit signs on roads entering the village
• Poor phasing of traffic signals on London Road / Station Road junction
• Need for a by-pass
• New transport depot on Station Road / Manor Lane junction producing too much heavy traffic
• Need for a speed limit on Manor Lane
• Hedges need cutting back on Macclesfield Road bridge
• Parking for nursery at Hermitage School
• Need for traffic calming on Elm Drive
• Skateboarding problems
• Flight paths from Manchester Airport
• Dog fouling

 

The formal business of the meeting closed at 9.05 p.m.

Thereafter wine and cheese was served to the members and public present. Also there was a display of photographs (provided by Mrs IM Mackenzie and Mr RC Parry) of daffodils throughout the village; and old village cups salvaged by Mrs R Dear which would be presented in conjunction with this year’s garden competition.
