The Akhal-Teké.  
This stunningly coloured horse was first ridden 2,500 years ago by horse herdsmen of the desert lands that run across the southern tip of the USSR, around the Caspian Sea. It is still bred in the Soviet Union today.

APPEARANCE.
A distinctive and elegant breed with a beautifully shaped head, expressive eyes and long ears. The Akhal-Teké has a slender neck and a long body with sloping quarters. The legs are strong and the feet large. Its mane and tail are fine and silky.

HEIGHT.
Between 14.2hh and 15.2hh.

COLOUR.
Famous for its light, honey-gold coat, which has a metallic sheen. Bays and silvery greys are also known.

PERSONALITY.
A spirited animal, the Akhal-Teké is hardy and has great stamina. Because of its suppleness and versatility, it makes a top-class riding horse and excels in competitive events such as jumping and dressage. It is also a prized race horse.
