John Haywood Odeneal was born, Jan. 19, 1839, and was raised in Columbus, MS. He was the second son to be named John in Ebenezer's family, most likely since there had been a John in the last four generations and the younger John had died in childhood. He was given superior advantages by his education in Nashville, TN and Princeton, N J. Before graduating from Princeton College he joined the Confederate Army, first in a company of the Tenth Mississippi Infantry for one year, he then went to VA and joined a company of Stuart's Calvary, and in 1863 he entered the engineers' dept, became a lieutenant, and served as such until the end of the war. Returning home after the war he farmed for two years. He married Anna Helm April 10, 1867, they had eight children: Erskine Patrick, John Dearing, Milton George, Mary Helm, Annie Marie, Edith Sarah, Pinkney Bailey, and Thomas Helm. In 1870 he moved to Jackson, MS and in partnership with his father-in-law started the State Capital Bank of Jackson. In 1880 he sold his interest in the bank and engaged in stock raising, with a small heard of Jersey cattle. At one time it was one of the largest dairies in the south, comprising of seven hundred and forty acres of land on the west side of Jackson and over one hundred milch cows. He also had two other plantations, in Hinds Co. one with six hundred and fifty acres under cultivation, and in Le Flore County two thousand five hundred acres of timberland. In 1876 he built a beautiful home in Jackson, and there he and his wife have dispensed a generous hospitality. He and his wife were active members of the Presbyterian Church. John H. was a shrewd and far-seeing financier and a merchant of unblemished reputation, which was built by a steady adherence, throughout his long business history, to correct commercial principals. He was also a junior member in the business of E. T.. Montgomery & Co. Of Jackson, MS. He died July 11, 1902 in Jackson, MS and Anna died April 18, 1923 at her daughter in Richmond, VA, they are both buried in Greenwood Cemetery, N. West St., Jackson, MS.
ERSKINE PATRICK ODENEAL
Erskine Patrick Odeneal was born June 16, 1872 in Jakson, MS. He married Anne STONE Mar. 26, 1896 in Hinds Co., MS. They had no children. He was a Opthamoligist on the Gulf coast. He died in 1934 and Anne died in 1941, both in Jackson, MS and are both buried in Greenwood Cemetery, N. West St., Jackson, MS.
JOHN DEARING ODENEAL
John Dearing Odeneal was born Dec. 19, 1873 in Jackson, MS. He married Maie Pope SHERROD Feb. 21, 1900. She was born August 21, 1876, Columbus, MS. They had no children He was a dentist in Columbus, MS and on the Gulf coast. He died in 1939 in MS and is buried in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS. Maie died Feb. 11, 1952 in Meridian, MS at the home of her brother.

On February 11, 1952, Columbus friends and relatives
of Mrs. Maie Sherrod Odeneal were saddened when they learned of her death
at the home of her brother, Mr. Henry Pope Sherrod, in Meridian, Mississippi.
She was born on August 21, 1876, the daughter of
the late Mr. Thomas B. and Betty Pope Sherrod and was related to the pioneer
families: Billups, Pope, Moore, and others. She was married in 1900 to
Dr. John D. Odeneal. Since his death, she had made her home with her brother
and his family in Meridian, and had spent many happy days in Columbus visiting
her aunt, Mrs. J.T. Champneys. Another brother, Mr. Charles Sherrod of
Jackson, survives toghter with several Nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Odeneal was a charter member of the Pioneer
Society always showing interest in its activities when she lived in Columbus
and at times when she could be here for meetings.
She was possessed of beauty of face and character.
Her sweet gentle charm was felt by all who came in contact with her.
Her artistic talent will be remembered by friends and family who own pieces
of her work. She was a member of and active in the work of the Presbyterian
Church.

sympathy to the members of her family for they too mourn her loss.

MILTON GEORGE ODENEAL
Milton George Odeneal was born July 13, 1874 in Jackson, MS. He married Alice BANKS Jan. 1911. They had no children. He was President of Southrn Bonded Warehouse in Memphis, TN. He died May 1942 in Memphis, TN and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, TN. It is not known when or where Alice died or is buried.
MARY HELM ODENEAL
Mary Helm (Mamie) Odeneal was born April 24, 1876 in Jackson, MS. She married Flewellyn Alexander SHINGLEUR Dec 5, 1895, they had three children. Mary Helm and husband lived next door to her parents in Jackson, MS. A mirror from this home now hangs in the Riverside Methodist Church in Jackson, MS having been donated by Miss Mernelle Heuck (last owner of the home). Their three childrens names are Mary Odeneal, Anna Helm and Flewellyn Alexander.
ANNIE MARIE ODENEAL
Annie Marie Odeneal was born Nov. 7, 1877 in Jackson, MS. She married Thomas Hinds SHIELDS Nov. 25, 1903. She and her first child died in childbirth, Sept. 2, 1904. She is buried in Greenwood Cemetery. N West St., Jackson, MS.
EDITH SARAH ODENEAL
Edith Sarah Odeneal was born Sept. 1, 1882 in Jackson, MS. She married David Thomas WILBON July 14, 1904. Their four childrens names are, John O., Alice Field, Anne, and Edith Odeneal. She died Sept. 2 1872 and David Oct. 17, 1944 both in Richmond, VA and both are buried in Richmond, VA.
PINKNEY BAILEY ODENEAL
Pinkney Bailey Odeneal was born Apr. 24, 1884 in Jackson, MS. He married Alice Nixon EARREY Dec 9, 1913 in Jackson, MS. Their five childrens names are, Anna Helm, Ellen Nixon, Alice Earrey, John Robert and Pinkney Bailey Jr.
THOMAS HELM ODENEAL
Thomas Helm Odeneal was born July 9, 1889 in Jackson, MS. He married Lottie HOEHL Dec 21, 1912 in Berlin,Germany. They had one child, John Franz. Thomas was an Opthamologist in FL and MA. He died Mar. 25, 1980 in Ft Lauderdale, FL. Lottie died in 1966. It is unknown where either are buried.
