Nathanial Chewing Odineal born 1818 ca, married Mary
Ann Grubb Dec 30, 1857, they had six children, Jessie Thomas, Nannie Belle
and Martha Jane all died in childhood from scarlet fever: Mary
Emma, David Thaddeus and Adah Ann all lived to maturity, married
and had families.
The following history was submitted by David Damico, whose wife
is a GGG granddaughter of Thomas,through his son Joel.
Listed in 1850 Franklin Co census as living with parents at age
29.
Listed in 1870 Pittsylvania Co census at age 52, a farmer with
$1000 of real estate and $400 of personal property, living with Mary Ann,
42; Mary E., 7; David T., 4; Ada Ann, 2. They live 2 doors away from
Polly Grubbs, 80.
Listed in 1900 Pittsylvania Co census at age 81, living with
his wife, Mary, 72; David T., 34; and 3 boarders
Library of Virginia Confederate Roster Vol. 17/391 shows him
as a veteran of the Pittsylvania Reserves.

estate on 11/23/1863:

He was appointed surveyor of the road from Little Bull Run to
Pen Hook in place of William Haynes in 6/1859 (County Order Book 11/426).
He was appointed Commissioner of Elections on 5/1856 to oversee the polling
place at Allen's Store, along with Solomon Pasley & others, then paid
$1.00 for his services. He bought 10 acres near Bearskin Creek in Pitts.
Co. from David T. & Elizabeth Yeatts in 1860 (Pitts Co DB 59/143).
An 1863 deed makes reference to a Tan Yard located there (Pitts Co DB 60/481).
On 8/21/1865, he was accused of murdering John Suttle
on 7/28/1865. He was indicted 5/1866, tried by a jury and acquitted.
(Pitts Co Order Books 47/283, 303-4 and Common Law Order Book 9/275).
James Grubb, Burwell S. Grubb, George W. Hall, T.C. Hubbard, Obediah Adkins,
Marshall Grubb & Whitmell Adkins were witnesses for the Commonwealth.
According to Pittsylvania Co. Death Records, John L. Suttle died of gunshot
wounds in August 1865 at age 43.
He was involved in litigation with James Grubb in 1868 (Pitts
Co Order Books 49/144 & 49/326); Robert Lampkins in 1883 (Pitts Co
Order Book 57/154) & Walker Grubbs in 1898 (Pitts Co Order Book 67/157).
He was indicted for obstructing ditches made for the purpose
of draining a public road in 1891, but this misdemeanor was dropped at
the next term of court (Pitts Co Order Books 63/184 & 211).

Mary Emma married Rufus Buchanan (Bud) Moses they had six children:
Norvelle O’Neal, Noah Preston, Rowena Anna, Mary Natalie, Rufus Bradley,
and Harry Longhome. Rufus Bradley died at about two years of age.

had three children; an infant that died at birth, Mary Louise Odineal,
and Charles Newton Odineal. David Thaddeus owned the Lexington Telephone
Co.

Adah Ann married Noah Walker Moses, they had two children, in
1902 Adah died during childbirth. The two sons Jessie Haile and Paul
Odineal were raised by their aunt and uncle Mary Emma and Rufus(Bud) Moses.
