Thomas Arnold Odineal born 1811 ca, married Martha Hines Newbill Dec 28, 1836 in Bedford Co, VA. Martha died
before 1859 and there is no record of any children born to this marriage. Thomas remarried Susan Blount April 18,
1859 in Franklin Co VA. It is not known where Thomas and family were in 1870 as they have not been found in a census. In the 1880 census Thomas apprears in Laclede Co., MO. All his children except the youngest, John D. are lisrted as born in VA, John is born in MO. Before the Civil War Thomas is a prospus farmer in VA. After the war he is had lost all his property in the Civil War and the family had moved to Laclede Co., Missouri by 1877 from VA.

    The following information was submitted by David Damico, whose wife is a GGG granddaughter of Thomas, through his son Joel.
    "The 1850 Franklin Co, VA census lists Thomas as age 40, living with Martha, 40, & Ann Newbill, in1860 the Franklin Co, VA census lists him as age 48,farmer, living with Susan,19, & Mary A., 5mos.; Purchased land in FrCo from Richard Beasley estate in 1847 at DB 20/134 and sold the land to his brothers David & Mark in 1868 at DB 30/234.
Thomas A. bought the following items at the sale of his mother's estate on 11/23/1863:

    The following is what Sarah LATIMER remembers her mother, Frances Lo Dema, telling her about Tom and Susan.
    "When the Civil War ended Tom was nearly broke, the children played with his worthless Confederate money, and with no means to support his family. It is not know where he was at the time of the 1870 census, but according to the 1880 Laclede Co., MO census his daughter Susan was born in VA in 1871 so they must have been in VA. By 1877 they were in MO, when John D. was born, to make a fresh start. They were farmers and good neighbors. One neighbor, a Mrs. Alexander, raised geese to sell their feathers for beds and pillows. They needed to be plucked every six weeks and Susan went over to went to help. She had finished pluckoing one and was returning to the shed to get another, just as she was going through the door lightening hit and killed her instantly. Long afterwards whenever it would start to lightening, the family would get on feather beds to protect them from the lightening."

In 1881 Tom may have married a third time. In Dallas Co., MO, the next county to the west of Laclede Tom O'Neal of Laclede Co. married Margaret Mather of Dallas Co. on April 15, 1881. This most likely is the same Thomas. Thomas died in 1889 as a result of being thrown from a horse. Tom and Susan are both buried atGood Springs Cemetery, Webster Co., MO the tombstone has Thomas, Susan, David and Mark on it.

Thomas and Susan's seven children are; Mary Ann, Charles Thomas, Martha Frances, Mark Henry, David, Susan Jane and John Dabney.

Mary Ann was born in Jan. 1860 and married a Mr. Bowers. They had at least one daughter who married a Mr. Jones. At least the daughter and husband moved to TX and had two sons, Ollie, born about 1904 and Paul , born about 1906. Something happened to the parents and their Great-aunt Martha Frances Odineal Warner raised them. Mary died June 17, 1911. The location is not known. Ill health maybe why Mary did not care for her grandsons. It is not know what happened to the two boys Ollie and Paul.

    He went by Tom was born in 1861 in VA. He was not listed with the family in the 1880 census. It is believed he married, had a family and lived for a while around Almara, WA. Sometime about the time of WW I he left his family and came through MO where his sister Martha sewed his money into his clothes so people would not rob him. He went on to Philidalphia, PA and visited some relatives and then as family legend goes went on to Australia. One explanation for this is a son died young and he couldn't deal with the greaf, so he left to begin a new life some place else. Sarah believes that a daughter married a Mr. Finn and that they came through MO when they had been over this way for some reason.

  Martha Francis Odineal married George Sherman Warner March 4, 1884 in Laclede Co, MO. George was a farmer and Railroad conductor and Martha was a homemaker. According to Gene O'Neal Martha had a glass eye and would play with him by taking out the glass eye and throwing it. Martha was a very good mother not only for her own children, but also for her two grand nephews, Ollie and Paul Jones. George died June 17, 1900 and Martha March 14, 1942. They are both buried at Twilight Cemetery. According to Gene O'Neal the name Twilight has an interesting history. It seems in this area their weretwo families that wanted a school for their children. One was Day and the other Knight, ancestors of Gene's wife. They worked to get the school built and when it was complete it was named Twilight to give credit to both families since the time between day and night is twilight. The area close to the school also became known as the Twilight Community.

Mrs. Martha Warner dies Saturday, March 14, 1942.

    Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. Martha Frances Warner, 78, who died Sat. March 14 at her home between Phillipsburg and Conway, MO. The Rev. W. M. Kerr officiated and burial was at Twilight Cemetery. Holmans Funeral Home was in charge.
    Mrs. Warner is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dema Lattimer of Conway, two sons, Ray of Archie and Roy of Alberta, Canada, a sister, Mrs. Susan Jones of Lebanon, a brother, John O'Neal of Niangua and twelve grandchildren.
    They had three children:

    Francis Lo Dema Warner was born July 8, 1886 and married James Wiley Latimer Oct 12,1918. Frances was a Homemaker and James a farmer. Frances died May 30, 1960 and James before 1975, they are both buried at Graceland Presbyterian Cemetery, Conway, MO.
    Their two children;

James was born Nov. 7, 1919. He is a farmer and never married.

    Sarah was born in 1922. She married George William FISHER. Sarah was a homemaker and George was a farnmer and electrician. George died before 1996. They had two sons, the first was stillborn.

    George was born June 4, 1890 on the farm near Conway. On April 23, 1923 he married Anna Malinda WARDEN. George was a man of many interests and talents. He worked in the shipyayrds during WW I, farmed, carpentered and was in the oil business. He also had time for several hobbies; furniture refinishing, singing tenor, whittling and reading.  Anna was a widow, her first husband was killed in 1918 in France during WW I. They had no children. George and Anna had two daughters;

    Marilyn was born in Carthage, MO March 25, 1931. Marilyn married twice. The first marriage to John George MACHULA lasted a very short time with no children. On June 27, 1957 she married Mervin Leroy SMITH and they had two children. Despite being partially paralized from polio Marlyn had many interests. as occupations she was a homemaker, bookkeeper, PBX operator and taught tatting, for hobbies she did crossstitch, read, music and in 1981 founded and is a continuing member of Co-Operative Wilderness Handicapped Outdoor Group. She also had a van equipped so she could get around without needing to depend on others.  Marilyn died in April 1998 in Pocatello, ID.

        Carolyn was born March 2, 1933 in Carthage, MO.  She married a Mr. SCHOLTEN and they had three children, before they divorced.  Carolyn is a homemaker and businesswoman.  Mr. Scholten is a psychatrist.

    Roy was born July 16, 1894 near Conway, MO.  He married Eva Lou Warden (Anna’s sister) Dec 12, 1914.  Roy and his family moved to Alberta, Canada where  their last two children were born.  He most likely moved at the urging of his Uncle Mark and the economic situation here.  He and his wife lived the rest of their years in Canada and the two sons born in Canada stayed, a son and daughter moved to Alaska, three sons moved back to Missouri and one daughter lives in California.
 Their eight children;

    George was born Jan. 30, 1916 near Conway, MO.  He never married.  He worked as a farmer and equipmrent operator for Missouri Portland Cement Co.  He died in Sept. 16 1997 at Archie, MO.

    Nova was born Nov. 17, 1917 near Conway, MO.  He married Wanda Marie MARTIN Sept. 30, 1951.  Nova worked as a longshoreman for the RR, oil drilling and owned a hotel.  Wanda was aregistered nurse for the RR and a postmaster. Nova died suddenly from a heart attack in Skagway, AK where he is also buried.  He and Wanda had four children.

    Martha was born April 5, 1919 near Phillipsburg, MO.  On June 7, 1952 she married Richard Burtis HUBBARD at the Presbyterian Church in Skagway, AK.  Martha is a homemaker and Richard wa a furniture and fine cabinetmaker as well as a carpenter and for a hobby makes miniture furniture. They had four children.

    Burrell was born Jan. 21, 1921 near Phillipsburg, MO and he married Betty Jo SHIPLEY.  Burrell was a cattle farmer and sold oil & gas and Betty is a homemaker.  He died Oct. 6, 1987 in Archie, MO and is buried at Crescent Hill Cemetery at Crescent Hill, MO.  They had four children.

    William (Bill) was born Feb. 4, 1923 near Phillipsburg, MO.  Bill served in WW II in the Pacific.  Sept 17, 1950 he married Clissie May MINNICK at the First Baptist Church in Archie, MO.  Bill was a cattle farmer and sold oil & gas and Betty is a homemaker.  Afer retirement Bill raises Percheron horses and mules as a hobby and additional income.  Bill and Clissie May had five children.

    Norma was born April 27, 1929 near Phillipsburg, MO. On June 3, 1951 she married Floyd De Wayne BURRIS in Springfield, MO. Norma is a homemaker and in her spare time enjoys her grandchildren, quilting and reading. Norma and Floyd had threen children.

    Mark was born Dec. 17, 1938 in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada. Mark married Helen Amy BEGG March 20. 1964 in Calagary, Alberta, Canada. They had four children before they divorced. Mark marrid a second time to Gillian Elizabeth FEARN July 5, 1987. Mark and Gillian do not have any children. Mark is a farmer and Gillian is an occupational therapist. In her spare time Gillian enjoys caring for animals.

    Ronald was born July 19, 1941 in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada. Ronald married Constance Ann CALDWELL Oct. 25, 1975 at the United Church in Banff, Alberta, Canada. They had one daughter before they divorced. Ronald married a second time to Nancy ?? ??. They do not have any children. Ronald operates a mountain pack horse operation.

    Mark was born about 1866 in VA. He never married, was a farmer and rancher in Alberta, Canada. He died Dec. 12, 1936 and his body was brought back to MO for burial at Good Springs Cemetery, Webester Co., MO, just a short distance from where he grew up.

    David was born about 1868 and died about 1870. It is stated he died in MO and is buried in Good Springs Cemetery, Webester Co., MO. If this is true then Tom A. most likely was in MO at that time, since in those days poor people couldn't afford to move a body over a thousand miles to be buried. It is possible that his name is just put on the stone and is buried elsewhere.

    Susan was born Aug 4, 1870. According to the 1880 census she is born in VA, but because of the above was she? It is possible that her mother Susan stayed in VA while Tom came to MO, but would Tom have brought a two year old child without the mother to care for him in a strange land. Perhaps records will prove that Tom and family were actually in MO in 1870.
    Susan married James Thomas Jones, Aug. 2, 1888 inLaclede Co., MO. Tom was born Jan. 2, 1863 and was a farmer. It is not know if Tom is related to the father of Ollie and Paul or not, but his granddaughter Susan Ara Murphy Koca believes they were not related or at least not close. Susan Koca also had heard that Susan Janes parents came from the Lynchburg, VA area which is close to Franklin Co., VA where they appear in census reports.  Susan died Aug. 2, 1856 and James died March 4, 1947 at El Dorado Springs, MO.
    The following is James obituary from the El Dorado Springs Sun, March 6, 1947.

    James T. Jones of the Virgil City vicinity died Tuesday at his home. Born March 4, 1847 (this is an error, it should be Jan. 2, 1863). Mr. Jones was 84 years old.
    He married Aug. 2, 1888 to Susan J. Oneal and they were the parents of two children, Martha E. Davis, Portland, OR and Mora H. Murphy, El Dorado Springs, MO. He also leaves a Foster son, Elvie L. Jones of Orla, MO, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Barnie Jones, Orla, MO and Coll Jones, Lebanon, MO.
    Funeral services will be held at the Gwinn-Carothers Funeral Home, this Thursday at 1 O'Clock, with Rev. Clarence P. Folkins, pastor of the Methodist Church, officating. Burial will be in the Virgil City Cemetery.
    They had two daughters;

    Martha, known as Mattie, was born in May 9, 1889 in Laclede Co., MO and married O. E. Davis Dec. 23, 1906. This is based on information from Susan Jane O'NEAL (Odineal) Jones Family Bible. According to Susan Koca Mattie and O. E. may have lived in the Thermoplis, WY area. In Jame's obituary they were in Portland, OR in March 1947.

    Glennis was born June 11, 1908.

    Pansy was born March 21, 1911.

    Lois was born Dec. 19, 1918.

    Mora wass born Sept. 16, 1895 in Laclede Co., MO and married Burl Oscar Murphy Dec. 2, 1913 in Orla, MO. According to her daughter, Susan, Mora and Burl lived in Scottsbluff, NE and Thermoplis, WY before settling down at El Dorado Springs, MO.
    The following is her obituary from the El Dorado Springs Sun, Nov. 27, 1984.
    Mora Helen Jones Murphy, 89, was born Sept. 16, 1895 in Laclede Co., MO, the daughter of James Thomas and Susan Jane O'Neal Jones and passed away Nov. 17, 1984 at Community Care Center.
    She was married Dec. 2, 1913 to Burl O. Murphy who passed away in June 1949.
    She was a member of Oral (MO) Methodist Church.
    Survivors include one daughter, SusanKoca; one son in law, Glen Koca; daughter in law, Leona B. Murphy, four grand children, eight great grandchildren and a foster brother, Elvie Jones of Lebanon.
    Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Hackleman-Peterman Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial was in Virgil City Cemetery. Music was furnished by Ruth Brown and Lillie Frances. Pall bearers; Paul Koca, Joe Renfro, Jack McCullick, Gerald Brown, Ray McCullick and Arthur Nikodim.
    Mora and Burl raised Burl's nephew, Elvie Jones. Elvie was born June 2, 1901 and lived in Lebanon, MO.
    They had three children;

    George was born Sept. 4, 1914 in Lebanon, MO. The following is his obituary from the El Dorado Springs Sun, March 27, 1975.
    George Thomas Murphy, age 60, died unexpected March 19 in Cedar County Hospital, where he had been a patient one day.
    Funeral services were conducted March 21 at 2 p.m., in the Isbell-Carothers Chapel in El Dorado Springs, with Rev. Everett Smith officiating. Ray Bozarth sang "Ye Must Be Born Again" and "Jesus Saves", accompanied by Marily Bozarth. Active pallbearers were Raymond Debler, Cecil Debler, Denzil Overton, Dennis Campbell, Joe Nikodim, John Campbell. Honorary pallbearers: Clarence Lukes, Art Raps, Lewis Kennedy, Wayne Wyrick, Gilbert Pankey, Harold Huff, Carl Hall, George Marshall. Burial was in Virgil City Cemetery.
    George Thomas Murphy was born September 4, 1914, in Lebanon, Mo., the son of Burl 0. and Mora H. Jones Murphy. lie operated the Virgil City store for several years. lie was employed by the El Dorado Springs school system for 30 years as bus driver and mechanic.
    On September 16, 1935, George was married to Leona Freeland at Nevada, Mo. He Was ordained on June 4 1972 at the Liberty Baptist Ciiurc~ in Virgil City, where he was pastor at the time of his death.
    He is survived by his wife Leona, of the home , one son Jess Murphy , two daughters, Mrs. Lola Dunfield, Mrs. Mora Dunfield. his mother, Mrs Burl Murphy, one brother, John Murphy, one sister, Mrs Sue Koca, nine grandchildren all of El Dorado Springs.

John was born Oct. 25, 1923 and died in 1984. He never married and lived in the El Dorado Springs, MO area most of his life.

Susan was born Nov. 28, 1931. She married Glen KOCA.

    John Dabney Odineal (O'Neal) married Mary Jane KNIGHT, Dec 23, 1902, they had one son. John was a farmer in Webster Co., MO. He raised cattle and hogs on his farm of several hundred acres. Mary was a homemaker. Mary Jane died Feb. 7, 1953 and John died later in the 1950's but the date is not sure. The tombstone has May 7, 1959 but the family believes it was in 1956. They are both buried at Conway Baptist Cemetery, Conway, MO. Gene said his grandfather , John, told him the surname used to have a d in it but nothing more was explained, but one reason given was they became tired of explaining how to spell the name and it still being spelled incorrectly.

Walter O'Neal was born Dec. 24, 1903 in Almara, WA. He married Lola Ray KILBURN, Oct. 13, 1926 in MO. Walter was a truck driver and farmer and Lola was a homemaker.

They had two sons;

    Gene as he is known was born March 31, 1928 in Webester Co., MO. He married Bettie Rose SMITH May 19, 1948. Gene was a Southern Baptist Minister and truck drive and Bettie a homemaker. They had six children.

    J W is how he is mostly known was born Feb. 13, 1939 in Webester Co., MO. He married Carlotta Jo DILL Oct. 3, 1958. J W is a Free WillBaptist Minister and works in costruction and Carlotta is a homemaker. They have three children.
