Thomas Odineal was born about 1784 in Pittsylvania Co., VA, the son of John and Ann (Winny) ODINEAL. He had
at least one sister Elvi. Thomas married Mary Chewing Aug 10, 1804 in Franklin Co., VA. They had ten children;
George D., Thomas Arnold, Talton James, Joel W., Nathaniel Chewing, Martha A., Mark A., David Lee, Jane C., and Mary Jane. All records of Thomas are around Franklin Co., VA. It is believed his parents were John and Nannie Odineal of Pittsylvania Co., VA. It doesn't appear this John and the John of NC are the same even though they lived close to each other and were near the same age. Some reasons are; John Sr. of NC died in 1791 and court records only state two sons John (Jr.) and Tate, both of which were under age, John Sr.'s wife's name was Sarah and have never seen her referred to as Nannie any place, never in any other records of John Jr., Tate or Sarah is there a Thomas mentioned.

Franklin County, State of Virginia, January the first day 1860.

In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Odineal being in proper mind and senses do make this my last will and testament.

First, I desire all my Just debts to be paid.
Second, I give one-third of all my estate to my wife Mary Odineal for her natural life and an equal division among my children at her death of that portion of my estate.
Third, I give to my daughter Mary J. Newbill in trust of the County of Franklin to appoint a suitable man to represent the said interests of my estate which is one-tenth part of one equal share = tithe to prohibit the said Mary J. Newbill's husband Nathaniel J. Newbill having any thing to do with the said interest in my estate in any way what-so-ever during Mary J. Newbill's lifetime and after her death the property remaining if any to the heirs of her the said Mary J. Newbill's body.
Fourth, I make an equal division among all the rest of my children in my estate to have and to hold as their own property after my death. Signed and sealed in the presents of the following witnesses.

At a court held in Franklin County at the courthouse the 6th day of August 1860.

This last will and testament of Thomas Odineal D'ecd was produced in court and proved by the oaths of Mathew R. Allen and Joseph Parker two of the subscribing witnesses and admitted to record and on the motion of Thomas A. Odineal who made an oath and executed bond according to law. Leave is granted him to obtain letters of administration with the will accepted of Thomas Odineal D'ecd in due form.
