In the Mountains High

She walked down the path
just like any other day,
she made a wrong turn
and lost her way.
No, she's not Little Red Riding.
This is a whole different girl,
in a whole 'nother time,
in a whole different world.
She soon reached a fork
and knew not where to go.
To her left mountains high,
and to her right valleys low.
Her boyfriend just dumped her,
she was in a crazed state.
She shut her eyes
and followed her fate.
Not knowing where it might lead her
and not knowing why,
she followed her fate
into the mountains high.
Earlier she'd fought with her friends,
and yelled at her mom.
She didn't know it then
but soon she'd know she was wrong.
Nothing seemed right
everything out of place.
She peered in the water
and upon her face.
She saw a soul with no life,
a body that's never felt sin.
She realized it then,
that she couldn't win.
She splashed the water
and had to get away,
from all the pain she had
she had to do it her way.
She ran away fast,
from the water-clear.
She ran away fast
from all of her fears.
She got tired and gave up,
and stopped to catch her breath.
She reached the ledge
that would soon bring her death.
She started to cry
and knew not what to do.
She looked into the sky
the sky's pure-blue.
An animals cry,
she did cry out.
"Don't let me live."
She said with a shout.
On the edge of all things;
her mind, the cliff and more.
The sinking feeling in her stomach
she tried to ignore.
The site before her
she would never forget.
She threw down a stone
and waited for it to hit.
A million thoughts
running about her head.
She stopped to wonder
what it's like being dead.
To never talk to
her mom and friends again.
To never go on dates,
with sophisticated men.
Naturally she thought about God,
heaven, hell and all the rest
but what it came down to was,
it was all for the best.
Life was a test of all things
she had learned each day.
It was the game of life,
she never learned how to play.
Life, a test of bravery,
strength and patience too.
She had all those things,
she just never knew.
It was life, her life,
she couldn't endure.
Nothing was worth it.
She knew that for sure.
Maybe she was crazy,
or maybe just wrong.
It didn't really matter,
she wouldn't have to deal with it for long.
She let it overtake her
her issues with family and friend
and that was for sure
the cause for her end.
She didn't have close friends
that would of listened or cared,
or that's what she assumed
so she just never shared.
Something was wrong
but her family never knew.
She had no one to talk to,
no friends that were true.
She just didn't know.
She just couldn't see.
Into her own hands,
went her final destiny.
Slowly and gracefully,
she took that final step.
Her life flashed and
with that she wept.
The seconds it took
seemed hours long.
In that moment though,
she knew she was wrong.
She cried for her life back.
What she did do
a horrible thing,
that she had went through.
She realized her mistake,
she never said good-bye.
She never said anything
about why she had to die.
First she saw black
then a glare of white.
As she hit the ground
She saw a light so bright.
So when that fall,
that was only seconds long,
had come to it's close,
she heard the angels song.
So, that's the story of the girl
in the mountains high.
And with these final thoughts
I, shall say good-bye.
It's not your fault.
Nor is it mine.
The meaning of life,
I just couldn't find.
I know someone's there,
that I could talk to.
But answer me this,
What could a stranger do?
I couldn't help myself,
so how could they?
Just stop interfering
I'm doing it my way.
Plus, what could they do?
Lock me up, run lots of tests
because they're the adults,
they know what's best.
Ha! I think not!
Like an animal in a cage.
Even if they did that
It wouldn't, it couldn’t, surpress all my rage.
So this really is for the best.
Don't worry. I'm fine.
I swear it.
The star that does shine
the sharpest at twilight
that will be me.
So, watch my spirit,
my spirit shine free.
So don't forget my story,
in the mountains high.
As I take my closing breaths,
to all of you, Good-bye.
