History Continued...

The 20's


~1920~

*Circle Swings updated, wicker basket cars replaced with small airplanes

*3 way figure 8 coaster replaced with the FireFly coaster (a side friction coaster,this coaster was higher and had deeper dips, it used the old coasters loading station)

*Mahoning & Shenango Railway changed its name to Penn-Ohio Electric.

*18 year old John Hoover who ran the shooting gallery was shot and killed.

*F.M Martin another park employee was killed while inspecting the tracks of the Firefly roller coaster.


~1921~

*Roller skating moved to the building previously used as a dinning hall

*A new lunch room construncted on the midway

*Pigslide added

*Water rifel range replaces The shooting gallery

*A glass mirrored ball added in dance hall

*A fully equiped playground added next to theater


~1922~

*New carousel(the old Dentzel carousel was purchased by the Philadelphia Tobagon Company and moved to Cascade Park in New Castle PA. which was also owned by the Penn-Ohio Power and Light Company),

*A fun house is built.(The fun house was originally called ALL FOR FUN and was built in the space formerly occupied by the pony track, it consisted of roulette wheels, social whirls, camel back bumps, trick stairways and slide, cakewalks, turkey trots shifting floors side rockers wind devices and much more.)

*Dodgems are added to park
*A new pony track is built near childrens playground

*Dance Pavillion is remodled (the orchestra is moved from the balcony to a platform in the middle of the floor)


~1923~

*The slogan Beautiful Idora Park is adopted

*Panama Canal ride rethemed and becomes The Wizard of Oz

*Circle swings replaced by the Giant Aeroplane Swing

*The Caterpillar is constructed (The Giant Aeroplane Swing and The Caterpillar are both constructed by Harry Traver)

*Childrens area renovated added double slides, see saws, sand piles and minature merry go round


~1924~

*Idora's ownership ties to the trolley industry end, the company is sold to the Idora Amusement Company

*It was announced that Idora would be constructing a Swimming pool (other parks such as Cascade Park, Craigs Beach, Conneaut and Lake Brady all offered swimming. Acts were also booked in the pool)

*A new coaster was advertised (it was really only the dip the dips which had been remodled into and out and back coaster with a 63 foot first drop, Edward Vettle did the reworking.) This new coaster was named the Jack Rabbit>

*A cafeteria was added to the midway and additional drinking fountains were added.

*The Mysterious Knock out and minature auto race track was added for kids.


~1926~

*Introduction of skee ball *1001 Troubles added ( a walk through attraction by Charles Browning)

*A newer model Whip replaced the old one

*Larger airplane swings installed

*Kiddie auto track enlarged

*Theater given a new enterance

*A Dangler chain swing was added


~1927~

*85 hundered new feet of sidewalk built along the midway.


~1928~

*Tilta Whirl added

*Monkey Island attraction opened, with 50 monkeys.


~1929~

*Kiddie zoo added, including a minature circus wagon.

*Dance Pavillion redecorated.
