April 16th BOYS FLOP FOR GIRL GROUP! Terry and Danny from chart-topping band Fifth Avenue have admitted that they once auditioned for a girl group. The two hopefuls turned up for auditions for Bellefire but didn’t get the job! “It’s not as stupid as it seems!’ says Danny. ‘At that stage Bellefire was planned to be a boy/girl group and there were loads of blokes there”. Having failed the auditions for the girl group, the boys set about forming their own boy/girl group. The result was Fifth Avenue who have already enjoyed great success in Ireland with their hits Spanish Eyes and Party All Night. Fifth Avenue and Bellefire eventually worked together when the two groups toured Ireland last year. “They are fantastic girls”, say Danny, “very warm as people and very talented. They’d make you want to settle down and get married!!” Fifth Avenue are currently sailing up the charts with the new hit “Sometimes When We Touch”. The single is currently number 5 in the midweek chart and the group are hopeful of having their first number one when the official chart is announced on Friday. * * * * * * * Fifth Avenue headline the Pop Saturday concert in Vicar Street on April 20th at midday. Not only that, but it did so after it was only available for the latter half of the week. Overtaking stiff competition from established international was no problem for the popular Irish outfit. Acts such as Garbage, Sugababes and Ryan Adams have not fared aswell as Fifth Avenue in the Airplay charts. The chart itself is compiled from the amount of plays given to a particular record by radio stations throughout the country. “This is typical of the support we have been given by Irish radio stations”, added singer Beverley O’Sullivan. Each time we release a single we are given solid support by Irish DJ’s and programmers. They are very fair, they play the good ones and politely pass on the others!!”. ‘Sometimes When We Touch’ looks like being Fifth Avenue’s third top ten hit when it is released on April 12th. ************** Fifth Avenue release their third hit single “Sometimes When We Touch” on April 12th.
